2025/26 David Moyes

All those years were at clubs in a mess. Not saying he's the long term answer to ending our trophy drought, but it's not like he failed with a top team.
Yeah, but you can go further back and they're the same, in the team he himself built up and had consistently getting Europe.

We can just admit he's not gonna do it mate, no need to move goalposts/mountains.

They're the same because he's never managed a top team. There's only been 4 "surprise" fa cup winners in the last 20 years.

2025: Crystal Palace
2024: Manchester United
2023: Manchester City
2022: Liverpool
2021: Leicester City
2020: Arsenal
2019: Manchester City
2018: Chelsea
2017: Arsenal
2016: Manchester United
2015: Arsenal
2014: Arsenal
2013: Wigan Athletic
2012: Chelsea
2011: Manchester City
2010: Chelsea
2009: Chelsea
2008: Portsmouth
2007: Chelsea
2006: Liverpool

That's great and not a very good reason why we exited mostly in the first rounds. Not like we reached quarter/semi finals consistently, we're usually out of it by october like

And lescott was superb at left back.
square pegs in round holes depends on who the player is. Garner looks just as comfortable in either position. Nobody described Alan Harper as a square peg when Everton were winning titles with him playing everywhere.
Any managers wet dream. Not just Moyes.

Agree Lescott was superb at left back until Baines took over and was even better, in fact under Moyes I thought we had pound for pound the best fullback pairing in the league for quite a while. Both attacking fullbacks who could also defend really well when called on. Wish we could go for them type of fullbacks today.

They aren’t six foot plus so wouldn’t meet Moyes current criteria. ☹️

I thought you were talking about the rants at the time with the fullbacks lol. Sorry. Im glancing at posts at work.
We conceded goals galore with Garner in central midfield at home. I'd prefer him in midfield and go recruit a proper orthodox right back. But garner and branthwaite in that united game was fine by me. I thought Moyes was spot on for that particular game.
Thing is with Utd game, Gana headed to wing for the cross, which isn't an issue in general play, KDH had moved to area, yes that's the role he takes up. Tim vanished, up the field for no reason instead of holding. Not one of them held that position in the centre, that shows lack of leadership and seeing what's happening. No talk.

Garner would have held that position as he always does, he see's that before it happens, he leads the team, just without the armband..

3 in the middle but not one when it mattered..

You can pick holes in any goal conceded. That includes the 4 against Brentford. The 4 against Newcastle. When Garner was playing in midfield. all teams switch off and concede. If its a continuous reason you're conceding ftom the same thing then thats where the coaching comes in.
He picked a formation he thought could win that game. Watching the game i thought he nullified them pretty well where as other teams have picked Everton off at home.
We've still a way to go before we can pen good sides in at home imo.

I think we just see different things, wasn't it Newcastle where Tim completely flopped, and O'brien and Pickford had bad games aswell.

I'm not saying our midfield has been perfect each game, but 2 of these games have had Tim in the middle.

Brentford ran us riot, and deserved what they got.

Spurs we lost to set pieces.

Wonder if Moyes thinks he won’t win it so why bother. ☹️

Moyes was very , very reluctant to play Baines preferring Lescott for a whole season.

Coleman was always a better attacking full back than a defender but seemed to find a balance to his game after a season in loan at Blackpool.

Again Moyes was reluctant to throw him into the team before he was absolutely convinced.

Davy always has hated taking a chance on players untill he's 190%sure that they are up to it.

Correct. That first half against Newcastle was the worst 45 minutes I've ever seen from an Everton player but credit to the lad Tim came back and has given some useful if limited performances

lescott signed a year before Baines and was voted players player of the year at left back. why would Moyes replace him immediately with a young left back brought from Wigan? Baines developed into the left back we all knew later.
