2025/26 David Moyes

To be fair to Moyes, last night was game for the ages. I look forward to telling my grandchildren about the match when Everton beat the mighty, basically already relegated, injury decimated Burnley team, 2:0 at home.
A joyous 1st win at home for 3 months.
It will certainly go down in the anals of history.

Wasnt a winning Champions league team or squad thats for sure. They got knocked out in the last 16 under Ferguson.
That title winning squad consisted of tom cleverly chris smalling and danny welbeck. Arguably Fergusons greatest title achievement getting that squad over the line. They were certainly in decline. As louis van gaal jose mourhino and erik ten hag to name a few have found out.
The opposition were weak that season as well. Would Leicester have won the league had they been up against a fully loaded City under Pep or Liverpool under Klopp? Obviously not. Timing worked well for United in that season as it was an old squad that was not built for long term success. Ferguson was there for one last hurrah before departing. Man City finished 2nd in the league - they failed to win a game in the Champions League group stages to give an indication of how good they were that season. Chelsea had Benetiz who never won the premier league whilst Wenger was still managing Arsenal at the same time as handling the long term financial impact of building a new stadium - not the free spending Arsenal under Arteta.

The following season Man City won the league with Pellegrini, Mourinho was at Chelsea whilst Liverpool clicked into gear although still came up short. Three teams acquired over 80 points plus Arsenal accrued 79 points.

I'm not jazzing up Moyes more making the case that the 2012/13 season was weak and one of the poorest over the past 15 years with the exception of the Leicester season. Van Persie played every single league game in that season which was key to them winning the league.

It's definitely true that Utd had been in decline since the Glazers took over and it was only Van Persie and their reputation that got them over the line. That said, Moyes should have been savvy enough to have kept Ferguson's staff and gone for evolution instead of ripping it up and alienating the players from day 1.
