Homepage Article David Moyes On Merlin Rohl

“He can play a number of positions for us as well. We can play him in several positions and he would still do the same job.

That really deflates me to be honest. Utility players are useful, but I don’t want a team made up of lads doing a job in positions, without excelling in one and being left there.
Think it's more a case of he has played every position before, some more than others granted, but understands each role(no pun intended).

People getting carried away here...

The lads still growing and filling out,

Henderson for that lot was rejected by utd because of concerns over his back and he ended up being fairly consistent

On a similar vein, wasn't Gerrard always out with hamstring issues around that age.

Didn't they say something weird like it was connected to tonsils, or am I just making that up?

i guess if we buy a player for 17m, but hes a 50m player on his day, and only appears in half the games, then it works out as good value??

as long as we have good cover when hes not fit

is this genius lateral thinking for the modern game? or the most elastic of mental gymnastics

When I was digging into Armstrong's stats I got curious and adjusted Röhls stats to per-100 touches in his 21 year old Bundesliga season.

The passing was still very poor but the ball-carrying was absolutely bananas. Like waaaaayyy at the top. If we can reliably get a system where he can receive the ball and drive with it, but not really have distribution responsibilities, we could get a lot out of him.

These ball carriers can be great but, and @Simon Buttle can jump in here surely those types that have had frequent injuries would be more likely to have further injuries from twisting and turning etc carrying the ball.

Ive no idea, just an assumption with turning and acceleration.

Henderson moved to the RS at 20 and Rohl is 23.
