Darron Gibson

IMO Darron Gibson is awful, ive always thought this. And in the last 3 games he his proving me right; he reminds me of Stephen Hughes, people saying 'oh he'll be good, he just hasn't had a chance' The game past him by against Blackburn and again last night, he was totally out of his depth. People where running off him all the time, Milner dropper his shoulder at the street end and went past Gibson like he wasn't there, his passing was awful and he gave the ball away on many occasions. I can forgive the match fitness thing, but he his clearly overweight and his general fitness level seems terrible for a professional athelete, after about 50 minutes he had his hands on his waist panting for breath and he wasn't exactly box to box.

I've made my case, i don't rate and don't think i ever will. For the sake of EFC i hope he proves me wrong, in all honesty i think he'll be playing somewhere else, probably at championship level, in 2 years time.

I honestly don't think he's been bad at all in the games he's played so far. Lacking match fitness and time to properly gel with the side.. yet he's still actually made a good account of himself in my book. He's only 26 yet looks like a more mature player in that role in the middle, and I reckon that's what playing with Giggs & Scholes at Man Utd has done for him.

He'll get better, of that I'm positive.

He's the sort of player who doesn't appear to do a lot on the pitch, but since we've brought him in Fellaini has suddenly started performing a lot better, as he seems to have hit off a decent partnership with Gibson. I think he allows Fellaini to get forward more than he could with Heitinga or Neville alongside him. His game is definitely understated, however so was Lee Carsley's.

Reserving judgement on the boy for at least 10 games, although that goal goes a long way to a positive outcome. up till that point he looked out of his depth, after the goal however he looked a different player assured decisive and confident.. Jackall and Hyde. will revisit this thread in 10 games time for more reasoned evaluation

He looks out of shape and his passing has been suspect, maybe because he's out of shape. But he's breaking up plays well, pressuring the ball, and scored the goal.

Hes up around the box looking for space to have a shot and thats what we need. Jury is still out. Hoping he is going to become a shrewed buy.

I pretty much agree with all of this,i will support him and i hope he comes good and to be fair i rate him better than bily in the midfield so we are stronger in my opinion than we were before january.

^^^^^^this..... he has been the catalyst for everything that we have done well since he's been here. Just by being in the team he allows fellaini the freedom to go and play,,, a very under rated player who will never be eyecatching but if you actually watch him over 90 mins you will appreciate what he gives the team,, even with all the supposed flair players we now have like pienar and drenthe they would not be able to produce without gibbo in the team, he should start every game.

Surprised this thread wasn't near the top. He was absolutely terrible today, even ignoring the two or three terrible giveaways. He was completely lost in the first half and ran around like a chicken with his head cut off in the center of the pitch. He deserved to be subbed off, not Cahill (though it's not as if Cahill was doing much either).

Just dreadful.

Cant comment on the 1st half because I only saw the 2nd, but he didn't give the ball away once - zero times. Unspectacular, but I bet Distin and Heitinga valued his presence in front of them - albeit in holding a piss poor Wigan attack at bay. Oh, and I dont think he was helped 2nd half by a pretty erratic Fellaini who seemed to be popping up in mad positions and leaving Gibson with the task of getting an understanding with Neville...who was taking up the space Gibson himself would have patrolled.

Not an easy game to have played in for him I wouldn't think.

Fellaini was playing further up the pitch in Cahill's spot when Cahill was taken off.

Yes, you most certainly missed the first half.

Fellaini was in everyone's position second half. I dont know whether Moyes told him he had a free role.
