He was very young then and probably felt like he needed more time.

He turned us down when he was 16 as he didn't want to leave his family. He had hoped the MLS would give him a Freddie Adu type deal and let him play in New York... and thus began his disenfranchisement in the MLS who have botched yet another chance at 'developing' talent. I guess they thought infrequent play and playiong out of position would build character.
