When did Froome do something equivalent to today? He won by being consistently the best, taking time over the full 3 weeks.

I stand to be corrected, but I don't think he ever produced figures like Pogacar did today (and for a 20 minutes stint after riding threshold for 40).

I'm not saying some of the Sky performances weren't questionable, but they were nothing like today.
I'm not criticising Sky or Froome.
Just thinking what the French press would have been saying.

World champs road race next weekend at Imola is a savage parcours - 260k with 5k climbing. Short punchy stuff, though, not big and sustained climbs so it is Wout van Aert territory, who will presumably be part of a mighty Belgian team. He is currently the bookies fav.

van der Poel is swerving it - showed some stuff at Tirreno but doesn't think he can win on the Worlds course. Pidcock is riding in the British team - course right up his street more than likely but a big step up in competition for him.

Down your way, I'd go to Bike Treks in Ambleside or Wheelbase in Staveley. Halfords were always notoriously useless... Evans I've never bought from.
Noticed an announcement today that BikeTreks in Ambleside is gone:

Sounds like more of a re-organisation than your typical LBS down the pipes story. Main shop in Ings and new operation in Grizedale forest - serious trail network in there now and an attractive spot for those who aren't into / fancy a change from the hard bastardery of Lakes big mountain hike-a-bike.

Brutal crash in the women's TT today at Worlds - reigning champ Chloe Dygaert was flaying the course again but had a nasty speed wobble into a bend, came off and went over the barrier. Full extent of her injuries aren't yet known but she has savagely wounded her leg - hope she can pull a WvA and recover back to her best.

Ganna in a different time zone in the men's TT - no one could live with him on a flat course like that. The magic man WvA second with a beast of a negative split, as he rode in the Tour.

Thomas looked in good nick - fourth and well in contention. Said his garmin wasn't working and he had to ride it blind, which is sort of amazing that a pro bike setup can be bolloxed up like that. Could have cost him a medal - riders at his level prob don't need power for a TT, they are so attuned to perception of effort, but definitely distance would be essential on a course you've never raced before.

You do have a marker every kilometre and a radio back to the car. Can't be that hard to work out... I think that podium was fair. Good ride from Dowsett too. I think Domoulin knocked it off after his slide on the corner to wait for sunday.

Yes good to see Dowsett get top ten - enjoyed the stuff he's put up on youtube over the lockdown. He is out of contract end of year I think so prob needs something good to happen, believe he is doing the Giro.

He'll be alright. I'm more concerned about Tom Pidcock chucking his talent away for a place in Sky's GT domestique programme.

Dowsett has always done alright in the Giro, too.

Pidcock brings a lot of capital, though - not been a young British rider like that for a very long time. He might get special treatment in the Ineos sausage machine.

How someone as precocious as him fits in to that roster tho I have no idea, could be sparks with champion riders left right and centre.

He's won junior Roubaix twice and is one of the best cross riders in the world... But they've got absolutely nobody to back him up in those races. He'll be on a weight loss plan and pulling turns at Catalan Week before you know it.
