Current Body of work - Ancelotti and Moyes

Champions League qualification? Let's face it even if we managed it in this oddest of seasons we'd be all well pleased,if not shocked.
CL qualification is progress not success even if it was achieved this season, IMO only when a trophy can be added to your honours list would it be deemed success.

I must have missed all those group stage games in the CL. I thought qualifying was actually getting the competition.. not losing In the qualifying rounds

moyes’s big issue was he could take us in sight of the ceiling but could never break it. So he raised expectations but the team never progressed beyond a certain level. Staying in the same place eventually is considered a failure...
Future managers were meant to build on what he put down not take us backwards.

Tbh I think the level we reached under Moyes was as high as we could go at that time. We were a really, really good side. Probably a lot better than we are now.

Winning a trophy was a step he couldn't make and there were a few chances. Not brilliant chances but they were still there. If Ancelotti can bring us silverware over the next few years it'll be one hell of an achievement. As would qualifying for the Champions League in back to back seasons. I say back to back because we can't have it just being a flash in the pan.

When Moyes was in charge of us there were many times when we were in touch of finishing in the top four but faded in the last third of the season. West Ham will do the same. Moyes is not a winner. He is plucky. As soon as he went to United the players realised what his mentality was like after having played under Fergie for all those years. there aren't many players at United who would have argued he should have stayed and been given more time. Ancelloti is a winner. Moyes would not make us any better now than Carlo. Ancelloti would have have achieved greater things with Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar et al at that time period with us than Moyes did

You cant compare Everton in the noughties with Everton now for a variety of reasons. Back then the [Poor language removed] didnt have Klopp, Salah, Mane etc, Leicester were useless, Man City for a good few years were spending millions on transfers fees and massive wages for average players and finishing below us. We used to do the double over them regularly for a few seasons. You cant just look at what has happened to us over that time period without looking at what other clubs have also done over that period. Back then there was a top 4 not a top 6

The advantage Moyes gave us at that time was consistency. Since 2013 we have had Martinez, Koeman, Unsworth x2, Fat Sam, Silva and Ferguson as managers before Carlo arrived. Each manager has different ideas , different playing styles etc. We have ripped up the plan and started again with each new manager. We need a few seasons with a great manager like Carlo to get that consistency back at the club again and then judge. since leaving us Moyes has failed everywhere. The fact that this season West Ham are doing alright after 24 games is not reason enough to forget his last 7 years in Management. Its guaranteed that he wont achieve 5th and six place finishes consistently with West Ham over the next few years

First 11 at his disposal:
Howard
Neville. Jags. Lescott Baines
Arteta. Cahill. Fellaini Pienaar
Saha Yakubu
Subs Yobo Hibbert Osman Vaughan van de Meyde

give Alex Ferguson that starting 11 and we walk top 3. We were lacking in the subs.. but that starting 11 had massive quality

it was as high as Moyes could go.. the team could have gone higher

You've just hit the nail on the head right there. Every year we'd get one or two injuries and the whole thing would fall apart. You're really forgetting how good the top 4 was back then and overestimating how good our players were.

DM getting that Czech player who plays like Cahill for 2 bob was an example of
how canny the man is.

He'll get that number 9 at Brentford for 30 bob and hey presto WHU will be off to the races
next season.

Carlo on the other hand spends 20 million plus on a 29 year-old midfielder with dodgy hamstrings and no goals
in him. I have no idea who will eventually prevail but it would be no surprise if it is DM at least in terms of best use of money.

Comfortably beats our current set up that team.

Moyes is only happy as the plucky outsider punching above his weight. He hasn’t got the winning mentality. See how he set W ham up in the fa cup v u tied. And against us at goodison. Just not a winner and I feel that part of the mental problems everton have now as not being winners is down to what Moyes made the club into over his many years here. We are still suffering because of him

Exactly. Moyes was great for us for about 5-6 years as he stabilised us and assembled a great team on a shoestring budget. A better manager would have pushed us on from about 2008 onwards

I'd agree but in the modern game top players seem to only want to go to CL teams, sadly the cups have become so devalued over the years when people look back in years to come the FA Cup will be seen like the Zenith Data Trophy.

We didn’t qualify. We lost in the qualifying round and entered the UEFA cup.
True but didn't feel like it at the time. I'd take getting into the qualifying rounds this season over the devalued FA Cup. Better players come to teams with a real chance of CL rather than EL.

That's because very few modern day players don't want to achieve anything but a 'nice contract'
Il bet a high percentage of players would choose a 80k a week contract and win sod all than a 60k a week contract and win say a league and a cup.
