Yes it is! Success depend on how it is measured. We, of course, didn't win a trophy, but that isn't the be all and end all in football. Only a handful of teams have the resources to win a pot.
Sorry, but it is. Or at least it is for most fans.
The point is that while you can be content with surviving, mid-table security or European qualification etc., the real benchmark for fans is trophies - winning.
That's not to say that achieving European football or whatever else isn't part of the wider context but I look back at '95, the 80s and '70 et al as our success.
Qualification for European football, surviving on the last day, on two occasions or individual spectacular or noteworthy performances aren't to that level.
For me, Moyes did a very good job in turning a team in the doldrums to a consistent outfit that pushed towards the top. We played some good football loo!
Yet, Moyes was not a successful manager. As time goes by, he will shift closer to the bracket of Bingham than the likes of Kendall, Catterick or even Royle.
A cup would have changed that. If Carlo is somehow able to bring us a trophy, he will quite quickly be elevated up the pecking order in terms of success.
