Current Body of work - Ancelotti and Moyes

I'd disagree pretty much totally with that to be honest. The fact that we've beaten good sides (kind of, if we include Leicester who aren't a traditional one and Chelsea who have had a weird season) is more just evidence that we can sit back and defend for our lives and sometimes get a goal on the counter/from a set piece. It's absolutely not evidence, in any way shape or form, that we're able to compete at the top. It would be much more a sign of progress if we were showing ourselves to be consistently better than all but the top sides. We're not inconsistent, we're just good at certain things and bad at others.

Mourinho has made a career out of competing at the top by playing that way. Done right, it wins silverware. By contrast, Moyes has won nothing at the top level (the Community Shield is a glorified exhibition, let's be honest). His approach is great if the goal is comfortably staying up (top half), but building solely to get the 'gimme' points won't lift silverware.

One thing we're short is the players that feast on bottom-tier teams. In particular, we need a right back that can get it forward and center mids that can retain possession, direct the flow of the game and unlock second-tier sides. Our current spine doesn't cut it when the opposition sits back - our passing stats have been poor, and if you account for all the back passing those stats are dire.

The good news is that if you already have a way to split the points with the best teams over a season, flat track bullies are available on the transfer market. You don't need a Rashford or Iniesta - the sort of players that you're only getting by developing them, and only retaining by being a behemoth. Guys like Lukaku and Eriksen will do. You can even afford their wages.

I don't envy a manager explaining to those players why they get to sit for the big games, though.

I don’t know why people are always eager to kick Moyes.
He’s a very good manager and did a great job at Everton with very limited funds.

Yes he failed to win at certain away grounds, but so has every manager since. One win at Utd in a season we finished above them, and a win at Spurs without a crowd watching isn’t much to write home about in 5 years.

Moyes' West ham is a better Unit than Carlo Everton. And getting to be as good as Moyes Everton. For every 10 million Moyes spends this summer we will need to spend 60. Just to stay in touch with him. A moyes 10 million is a top clubs 50-100 million.

Must be a cracking full moon tonight, some absolute whopper posts on here. We lost a game we shouldn’t have lost therefore the world is ended, all our players are rubbish again, Carlo doesn’t know what he is doing, blah, blah blah.

if we beat liverpool it will be were are on for CL football, Carlo is god, we are one. Right back from being a great team blah, blah, blah. I understand the pain when we get beat, that is normal. I understand the frustration when. We do what we did against Spurs and then crash to Fulham, gain, understandable to be frustrated. But to say that being beaten by Fulham, in a season when Man City drew with west brown and got walloped 5-2 at home by Leicester, Liverpool, beaten by Brighton and Burnley and drew with Fulham, Man U beaten by Sheffield united? This season is crazy, crazy results keep happening. Chill lads, your going to do yourself some harm?

Except these aren't freak results. We've had several appalling performances in games we should win, all of the games follow the same sort of pattern.

You lose the right to blame it on this "crazy season" when it keeps happening. There's something fundamentally wrong with our mentality and how we set up in these games. It doesn't mean I don't have faith in Carlo finding the balance but he's got some work on.

Blokes the best manager in the league. Imagine what we’d have won had he never left. We lose to Fulham and they hammer Sheffield United what a joke, wish we had an elite manager like him

I think CA has clearly under estimated the work that needs to be done here, or he is here for a payday.

He has only been at clubs with world class players and able to add top elite players, there is no way he is cut out to manage Everton. The clubs he has been at are different worlds away from what he has at Everton, cant see him turning this around TBH.

Took over a bottom half team and 18 months later, which will be the end of the season we will still be a bottom half team, or 10th if we are lucky.... Some progress that!

Another season which promised so much and delivered as per usual! NOTHING!!!

Problem with the 'crazy season' sentiment is that it overlooks the fact that it represents our best chance of achieving something.
In a normal season, we arent competing with the 2 Mancs, Chelsea, Liverpool, maybe Spurs and Leicester so thats CL and Europe out of the window.
We look back on 2004 as Collina as a missed opportunity. Unless there is a change in the next few days, we could end up treating this season the same

I’m glad that Moyes has been declared a successful Everton manager

What a marvellous statement, let’s get a statue
Steadied a sinking ship, did wonders with a paper thin squad and very little money, got in Europe a few times and a fa cup final. Last 5 years we’ve burnt a ton of money and had 1 embarrassing attempt in the europa league. Moyes deserves credit for what he did back when we’re skint, we’ve tried to step up and be a bigger side with the cash injections the last few seasons but we haven’t achieved nothing more than than what the messiah did with a tiny squad
