riddick

Player Valuation: £70m
Seriously, this first line from McNulty really irritates me. I get it, we're celebrating being the least worst 4 teams in the country.

He's making the point that this wasn't a one-off, it's what the club is now. A team that struggles to survive every year. And he rightfully points out that it's the board who have turned us into this.

He's one of the few in the mainstream media who calls this board out for what they are and wants to see Everton be better.

Which is fine. Just feels like a "yeah yeah this awful team somehow has escaped again" instead of a critique.

It is an awful team though, they're so, so lucky they haven't gone down. Most other seasons they definitely would have.

Everyone needs a dose of realism and absolutely not be celebrating this. Nothing has been achieved. Nothing has been proven (except maybe Dyche is a far better coach than many want to give him credit for). We have to do away with this board if we want to avoid ever going through this again.

I mean, I agree 100% pretty much everything here

McNulty is a grade A bellend. Describes himself as an Evertonian but I've never seen any evidence of it.
I think there's been a fair bit of evidence of it, particularly over the last 12 months. He's been the loudest, most high profile media voice in terms of criticising the board and the running of the club. One of the few to call out individuals by name too.

Better late than never, I suppose.

I think if we survive in the last few games of this season coming up then it's a fair comment, at just two it's a bit much. Truth is for all the background squabbles and how badly we are run there is definite reasons other than that why we were where we were.

If you take a middling club and say you'll be without your main striker for the best part of two seasons, same with your rght back, two other players out for almost the same time, that you will have horrendous refereeing decisions, then they'll probably think they'd be right in the mix for relegation too.

Our situation is analogous to a family that cannot sleep because their smoke detectors keep chirping, yet they are unaware of how to replace (or even remove) the 9V battery that is the source of the problem. Some families with this problem learn to ignore the chirping and sleep soundly anyway. Some of us have been asleep for years, now. Some of us have been awake so long that we contemplate murder.

Everton FC = the smoke detector
The Everton Board = the 9V battery

We would be better served with no board than this board. Replace the board and keep the house from burning down, while you are finally able to get a good night's sleep. If you do not believe that people exist that cannot figure this out, you do not listen to American talk radio call-in shows. ("hold it, is that a smoke detector making that sound?')

Good analogy!

That is a very well written piece tbh.

In context the " annual celebration " remark is quickly countered with the speed the fans turned to "sack the board " , that is exactly how it happened.
He has made the point of a totally untenable board and lambasted them for not heeding the mistakes from last season .
His comments over Kenwrights open letter are straight to the point. The need to give the manager help rather than hinderence this summer.
All in all its about as good a piece he has ever wrote about the club.

About bloody time like.
