Cricket

Quiton de Kock retired from test cricket aged 29. Said he wants to spend more time with his family. Still fully committed to white ball cricket.

Such a shame this. Wonder if it's a sign of things to come. I love test cricket but can understand that players have families they wish to be with, especially now with Covid rules on tours etc. And of course, white ball cricket is much more lucrative in terms of the franchises around the world.

Real shame.. my favourite player of this generation and a loss to test cricket… I think there is more to it than just family.. diaries are jam packed with T20 nonsense and if t20 is getting the best players to not play test cricket I would rather see it vanish. But as said I feel there is more to it with the amount of noise going on in the CSA at the moment..

Separate note.. good start for SA in the third test…

Great win for SA against India to level the series with one to play. With Bangladesh beating NZ in the 1st test both of the supposedly best teams in the world have lost. Funny how NZ's batting suddenly looks fragile without Williamson.

Forget the debacle in Australia - test cricket lives!

Was surprised at the win.. SA’s batting is honestly average by international standards and our own recent past … but they stood up in that 4th innings.

Yes I was surprised too - a lot of it was down to Elgar, who's a stubborn so and so! How England would like someone like him at the top of the order.

Third test underway with 2 early wickets for SA.

Meanwhile normal service resumed in NZ but sadly no third test so Bangladesh will be delighted with a 1-1 draw

Bit disappointing it's only two years.

Yes, not sure why only 2 years - I think Livingstone signed for 3 years. Perhaps with only one or sometimes two frontline spinners picked in the team he doesn't want to commit himself to an extra year, given he may face competition from Morley's left-arm spin. Seems a bit odd though.

Virat Kohli has stepped down as captain of India men's Test team.
The 33-year-old - who stopped leading India's limited-overs sides last year - had led the Test side since 2015.
He captained India in a record-breaking 68 Tests, winning 40 matches - the fourth best record as captain among any team in Test history.
"It's been seven years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction," Kohli said on social media.
"I've done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test Captain of India, it's now."

Good news.

Bangladesh are the current u19 world champions. In England's first match they bowled Bangladesh out for 97, two young Lancashire bowlers doing well.

England currently playing Canada and are batting, 78-1 (16 overs).

Keeping an eye on Singh. I used to work with his brother. Looks a decent prospect.
