Cricket

Tough game for the Susses youngsters but at least Tom Haines won the race to 1,000 county championship runs, and there were 10 wickets in the game for the young Middlesex leg-spinning all-rounder, Luke Hollman.

Yes that was a bit of a learning curve but Middlesex bowled well. Tom Haines has done well this season, captaining for over half of it. Hollman bowled really well and deserved his 10 for.

The test match has been cancelled

If there are no positive tests among the players then I don't really understand what's going on

Really unfair on everyone who has paid for tickets, hotels, travel and taken time off.

Not good is it? The inference is that making sure the Indian players are available for the IPL in a week or so trumps a test match, allegedly.

That's what I've heard suggested on the radio, but who knows. It re-starts in 10 days, which happens to be the isolation period for a covid case.

If they really were concerned then why not do more tests today with a view to starting tomorrow with a 4 day match and add the extra hour every day?

To call a game off on the morning of an important test match, without positive tests, seems completely over the top.

Original statement said 'India were unable to field a team and will instead forfeit the match'. The second half of that sentence has now been removed.

It should absolutely be a forfeit. If you refuse to field a side when you could, then you lose. That's a basic of sport. My side got -4 points deduction for the game we couldn't field a side this summer! And that was at 3rd XI level!

India have forfeited the match, which to me means they could have played but decided not to?
Now being reported in some places that they haven’t forfeited the game and it’ll be down to the “authorities” to make a decision on any result!
If I was a betting man I’d guess there’ll be not a single sign of Covid amongst the Indian players when the IPL starts!
Ridiculous decision to cancel the game    !

What an absolute farce this is to call it off so close to the first delivery. A friend of mine was already on the train when it got called off and there’s plenty of other people that will have been short changed from all this, especially those who had tickets for over a year or so. Not going to lie, as soon as the first positive test came in from their staff, I was expecting the test match to be canned, just not made so late.

Cash is king.

The BCCI effectively run cricket nowadays. IPL is the daddy and aint nothing changing that any time soon.

All about the money, money...

India wanted it shifting in May. Absolutely reeks.
