I'm genuinely not sure. If it's dead level after an innings then India are favourites. England need at least a small lead I think. England have the chance to build a lead but two wickets after lunch for India and they are well ahead of the game.

Yes two wicket a makes a hell of a difference but I'm talking about right now. 5 wickets for 50 runs when considering Woakes, who is a proper batsman, is batting at nine isn't level.

You could say If these two add another 70 they'll be ahead with five wickets in hand. - saying a match changing event will make a difference is a given tbh.

Yeah I know there are still two capable all rounders to come but I think a lot rests on the current two. One of them needs to at least double their current total and get a 70 odd. The next session should in theory be best to bat against the older ball, and before any new ball, but it doesn't always work like that.

Bairstow is a funny one, he is basically doing what Root was doing for a couple of years but with lower runs. By that I mean Roots century conversion rate was under scrutiny but with Bairstow it is the conversion from 30's to 50's.

There is a test batsmen in there somewhere, I am heavily of that opinion.

A bowling day predicted tomorrow with the weather humid and overcast. Really is important to take this into the last session as long as possible.

Need India batting mostly tomorrow rather than now, also it would mean stretching the lead to somewhere nearer 100. A lot on Pope and Woakes with Robinson maybe able to support whoever is left.

Need Jimmy to finally turn up in the second innings too.

From 62-5 to 227-7 is 165-2 from Pope in partnership with Bairstow and Ali (then Woakes) - once again the experience of Bairstow and Ali giving crucial middle order support.

Why did we field such a useless team of young lads against NZ when this experience was overlooked? - worst selection for decades, no wonder they lost

England have clawed their way back from a very poor position. With the help of Ollie Pope's efforts. Really reminds me of Ian Bell in style and manner. Pity Ali skyed the ball with that shot out of sync with the situation. Need to consolidate after tea. Woakes is no rabbit. Get to 100 ahead and as near as stumps as they can. First thing tomorrow will be tricky for the Indians.

Not sure we will definitely need Anderson to turn up as Robinson, Overton & Woakes all have the capability to strike, however, if he does then it will more than likely be game over for India, even if the others don't do as well as they did in the 1st innings.

In terms of NZ, I guess they thought that resting more experienced players ready for India was a good idea, they probably saw it as a bigger series with it being more of a rivalry and a longer series, while trying to bed in some young lads would be the way to go, it has failed as those players were not up to it but I don't disagree with the thought process, in theory, if that is what they were trying to do.

Playing a far weaker side than they needed to against the far better test team with NZ ranked number one in the world - (especially in English conditions) made little sense to me then and still doesn't tbh.
