Another well constructed and chanceless innings by Bohannon but the pitch! Only chance of a result is for Lancs to bat through today and into tomorrow and hope their is finally some turn and enough time to bowl Warwick out. Unlikely. Thankfully this is the last game for them at Old Trafford this season!
You wonder what the Test pitch will be like, and if it will be dependent on what happens in the next match.

Moeen not Rory Burns has been named vice captain. In the continued absence of so many of England's regular and more experienced candidates including former vice captsin Stuart Broad and following replacement vice captain Jos Buttler's withdrawal and the actual vice captain Ben Stokes' continuing extended leave.

England fielded their weakest team in decades against New Zealand recently, a young inexperienced batting line up full of nomarks who had done absolutely nothing in test cricket, but since then the culling of the young batsmen, replacing them with those that have been tried and tried again, has massively improved the batting, adding the steel that was needed.

In that way it's s pity we haven't anyone else who's a lot older and looking for his fourth or fifth chance to make his mark but will almost certainly call on one of the younger losers in Pope. Imo Malan and Bairstow have been crucial in turning the batting around and occupying problem positions in the batting order too.

Well this wouldn't be a disastrous test pitch - a bit slow but it will definitely last 5 days.

Lancs have lost 4 wickets to the new ball, including an extraordinary cameo from Livingstone with two sumptuous fours to get off the mark, a loose drive inside edged for another boundary and then clean bowled leaving one that nipped back.

Bohannon still there, and 5 wickets for Norwell, a class above the other Warwick bowlers.

Old Trafford - just those two words are enough of a reason why Lancs haven't won the championship since the 1950s (with the one exception around 2014? ).

Manchester has its own micro climate analogous to that of a rain forest in the rainy season, and when it's dry we get result wickets like this?

If Lancs want to be more successful they'll have to move away from Manchester, no coincidence the one exception was when Old Trafford was closed for refurbishment. As bumble said they should play at Aigburth, Southport or Blackpool etc permanently.

10 year anniversary of Lancs winning the Championship this year. No coincidence that there were no games at Old Trafford that year. Not just the weather either - the pitch has often been too slow or flat to force a result, especially if there isn't a top class spinner. Parkinson reckons the pitches haven't turned as much at Old Trafford this season, and Mahmood rated this one the flattest of the season.

Still, it was a decent afternoon session with some good new ball bowling from Norwell, who if it wasn't for injuries, could have been an England contender at some stage of his career, and lovely batting from Bohannon.

317-7 - Bohannon 158no.

Evenly poised at Worcester,Sussex lead by 250 with 4 wickets left. Another 50 from Ali Orr who is continuing to impress.Daniel Ibrahim has had a great game,so far, with both bat and ball. Fingers crossed for a full days play.

I wonder whether Joe had an idea that Kohli's stubborn streak would prevent him from making the obvious change.

Bowling first makes even more sense when Kohli leaves their world class spinner out. Batting last against no real spinner other than Jadeja isn't as bad.

I've only caught a little bit, but I did look a good wicket to bat on to me. I've never seen a poor wicket at the Oval tbh.

Bowling day, Anderson bowled poorly in the first half hour and made batting look easier than it was. Woakes showed just what England have been missing so far in this series with their injury ravaged side (and authorised absence), after Woakes replaced Jimmy things suddenly looked very difficult indeed.

Jimmy perhaps inspired by Woakes, Robinson and Overton was better when he came back but easily the worst of the bowlers.
