Sussex close on 291-9. Young opener Tom Haines with a fine 155 making the most of three dropped catches in the slips, two of them straightforward, although I wouldn't fancy standing there in this weather!

Bailey outstanding for Lancs, well supported by Mahmood, Wood and Lamb. Looks a good batting pitch so should be a good day tomorrow against a promising Sussex attack of Robinson, Garton, Meaker and new young left-arm 6' 5" quickie Sean Hunt, and young Irish off-spinner Jack Carson.

Feel like we let them off the hook there. Big time.

Lancs 226-4 in reply to Sussex's 301 at Old Trafford (day two of four). Captain Dane Villas on the verge of a ton (98*) in with Jones 42*, partnership approaching a ton too (94 so far).

Lancs 303-5 in reply to Sussex's 301

Lancs take the lead thanks to an unbeaten 139 from skipper Dane Vilas, new batsman Luke Wood on 11*. Earlier today Vilas and Rob Jones had shared a century partnership as Lancs dominated the Sussex bowling. The only wicket to fall in the last few hours being Rob Jones who threw it away for 58. The young Sussex spinner Jack Carson bowled a load of dross but then showed Dom Bess like quality with another dreadful ball down leg which was reverse swept straight to a fielder by a disbelieving Jones.

339-5 at the close. Vilas superb, well supported by Davies and Jones, playing as fluently as I've seen him. As Chris said, he threw it away with a premeditated reverse sweep off what turned out to be a dreadful full-toss.

One of Bohannon, Croft and Jones will likely be left out when Wells is fit so felt a bit sorry for Bohannon having to face the new ball, while Jones came in when it was a lot easier. Jennings got Lancs off to their traditional start by giving slip a bit of catching practice, edging 4 through them and then a familiar angled bat to nick one into the fielders hands.

Robinson bowled well with new ball, and Hunt showed why Sussex nicked him from Surrey - raw but promising. Garton disappointing and Meaker was Meaker.

Overall, similar day to yesterday with batting becoming a lot easier when the shine goes off the ball.

Lancashire bowled out for 407, Vilas last out for 189, lead by 106. No play this morning because of snow. lol This afternoon at Headingley :
