I don't think you should play with two slow carthorses together in the defence. Tarkowski is obviously far superior to Coady though and you need to get some legs alongside him. I'd drop him for Godfrey at this stage, or even give Holgate a go.

He’s a prime example of self confidence helping someone get places his ability should never have taken him … see similar lads on hackney marshes every week .. fair play to him he’s done well in life but he’s a blagger and never a premier league quality centre half

I think we need some pace in the defence, as erratic as he can be, I'd give Godfrey a run until the end of the season, then bring Branthwaite back and integrate him next season, with Tarkowski alongside him to guide him.
Agree, we have to have at least 1 CB who has a bit of pace, I'm not sure I could take another season of Coady and Tarkowski together, zero pace between either of them.

I think the criticism of him and the defence in general at times is harsh

The lack of goals means they have to have near perfect games every time and that's just not football. This is the premier league people will get chances.

Villa actually had very few and really we were undone by our lack of people who can find the net and a dubious penalty
Agree with this generally, but his effort for that second goal can't be excused. I am being very serious when I saw kids down the park would have made it more difficult for Buendia.
