It is notoriously brutal for new players.

Did you get it on PC or Xbox? If you got it on PC lemme know your cmdr name and I could probably chuck a few tons of palladium your way to help get you started.

Yep, got for the PC. Main thing really isn't that it didn't hold my hand, fine reading manuals and doing tutorials, but the tutorials didn't even cover the essential components - had to look up the key mapping assignments to figure out how to find the console (mouse 3) and how to descend (F). Pissed off trying to land for ages before turned out I needed to face a specific way.

Then started exploring, got to a planet and didn't have a clue what to do next. How do I mine? How do I land on the planet?

I understand it's a learning curve but ffs pilots aren't born knowing this crap so don't call it unrealistic to expect some direction.

Real torn on if it's worth picking up at all. Did enjoy wolfenstein, so that's kinda pulling me towards yes.

I really want it to be good, but have seen mixed responses (at best) to the Open Beta, so we will see. Won't be pre-buying for sure!

Persevere with it. You will find a great, fun game under the initial difficulty.

Oh, and never fly without insurance money.

Did you get just Elite: Dangerous, or did you get Horizons as well? If just Elite Dangerous, then you won't be able to land on planets. You need Horizons for that.
