Community Shield; Big Game Or Not?

I'll be the first to say that I've always thought of the Community Shield as a big game. I'm saying this in advance of today's game because if the rs win, then of course it's a massive game in their opinion.
If they lose, obviously it's a nothing game in their eyes.
I was at Wembley in 1984 when we beat the rs in the Community Shield and it was massive! It was a declaration of intent on our part and if you know your history (as all Blues do), we went on to become Champions of England in 1985.
It will always be a big game in my opinion.
Thanks to HK and his fantastic team.

True; But no, not 'big' in the sense of the word we know.
Raises a few bob, and its a good game for before the big kick off...

If your team is in it, then it's a big game. If not meh.

It used to be bigger as unless it was an international tournament year there would have been no football since the FA Cup final. Now we see an array of pre-season games/tournaments that apathy sets in.

I think it will hold some more sway this year as it’s the primary potential title challengers facing each other, so it will be used a barometer for the year.

However, for most years it’s a glorified friendly that provides very little information regarding expectations; this year isn’t much different actually.

I don't think its a big game.
If we wasn't playing Liverpool today then I really would not be bothered if we win, lose or draw as it actually doesn't matter.
Would like to put one over that lot for obvious reasons but if we don't then so what?
