Many years ago (1980's) I was up north on business. Firm I worked for had booked me into the Post House Hotel, just off the M1 at Wakefield. It was about the first week in September. I booked in at about 4.00 pm on a lovely hot late summers day (about 28C). The hotel reception was full of Christmas decorations, including a large tree. I mentioned this to the receptionist and made the comment that it was a bit early. She just shrugged and said 'Head Office orders'.
Think that's the earliest I have experienced.

A charity shop in West Kirby had their Xmas cards out on sale in August.

House down our road has their Christmas decorations up, festooned with lights and illuminated reindeer on the lawn.
