Transfer Rumour Christian Benteke

No thanks. He was a beast at Villa because they played with two wingers either side of him providing service. We don't play with width and we saw at Liverpool what happens when he has to rely on service coming from behind him, he's no way near as effective.

Don't have any issue with him being a former Liverpool player, he was only there a year and didn't seem to enjoy at all (hence how he celebrated when he scored past them). Just don't think he'd suit the way we're going to play.

The perfect Lukaku replacement and a wonderful fit for our new-look team.

Offers all Lukaku did, plus holds the ball up much better, more of a threat in the air and pacey.

YES PLEASE!
When you put it like that, it's crazy that two of the world's biggest clubs have just had a bidding war over a player when there's an option who's so much better right under their noses.

I would like to point out that I don't actually dislike Benteke and think in the right team he would be very useful. When he was at Villa I'd have taken him in a heartbeat but I'm not sure he's developed as I thought he might since then.

I know a lot of people keep talking about him being a targetman but I don't think he is at all. I mean, he's a target for crosses etc as he's excellent in the air, but his hold up play is not very good in my opinion. His passing stats are worse than Lukaku's so I'm not sure where the idea that he would join up play better comes from. Maybe people just putting two and two together and thinking because he's big he'll hold up the ball.

haha lets get him!

Tend to agree with @davek , he is definitely not a FDB type player. He likes the ball played on the ground. They will want rid. Although I don't think it'll be £30m, it'll be something like £33-38m. I hope so anyway. Which I think would be decent business for a 26 year old striker who has hit double figures in 4 premier league seasons. In the one other he got 9.

Unless we play a very direct game with shed loads of crosses into the box, we won't get the best out of Benteke.

He's dominant in the air, strong, can shoot and has good hold-up play but terrible movement, no defensive interest and can't pass for toffee.

The primary reason that he didn't succeed at Liverpool under Rodgers was that they tried to be Arsenal lite with neat interplay and balls on the deck, without playing to his strengths at all.

Without Sigurdsson, who would rain the crosses in? Rooney isn't mobile enough these days to play in midfield and Baines' crossing has gone downhill. And does the direct game really play to our strengths and new signings?

Everyone is saying benteke no where near as good as lukaku and obviously he's not.
I think rather than looking at it individually we should look at it as a group.
As a group benteke, rooney and sandro would be far better than the striking options last season of lukaku, kone and valencia.

Not my first choice but back in the day I believed he would be a great fit for everton.

He'd actually be a completely pointless signing as we are now because we don't have anybody in the squad who can consistently hit a decent cross.
