Transfer Rumour Christian Benteke

He is rated behind Origi lad
Are you meaning for the RS or Belgium? Liverpool never played to the lads strengths at all, it like playing messi up front on his own and just lumping high balls for him to challenge.
Liverpool never played with any width and are one dimensional in how they play. You need to have options in your squad, on the pitch or off the bench. Benteke scares the life out of teams such as RS and city due to their weakness in the air. Alternatively you'd rely on the guile of Rooney, sandro and siguardsson against the likes of West Brom.

Benteke is a 15-20 league goals striker when provided with the right service. Surely he's one-dimensional but if you take a quick look at our current forward options, it's glaringly obvious that it's the very dimension that we desperately lack. Lookman is 5'8'', Rooney and Sandro are both 5'9'', while Calvert-Lewin is a rookie.

There's also this theory that Koeman wants the goals spreaded all across the pitch and it's absolutely right. It must be noted though, that it's highly unlikely all the new signings (Klaassen, Sandro, Rooney, the new striker, etc.) will 'click' immediately, start delivering from the off and finish the season with 8-10 goals each to their names. And even if that's the case, there must be a focal point in attack (a player who gets you 15-20 goals) or otherwise it's all pointless. Just ask the lot across the park: three of their players ended the Premier League campaign having bagged double digits, as many as six of them scored at least 7 times. Yet for all that, they only just made it to the Champions League play-off spot and probably wouldn't had Arsenal recorded their 'regular' season.

Unfortunately there aren't many alternatives on the market for us. There's Batshuayi at Chelsea who was boss at Marseille but wasn't given enough chances at Chelsea last term (still managed 9 goals in 702 minutes). Giroud flew to Australia with Arsenal and seems very keen to stay in London and make it as hard as possible for Lacazette to displace him. Then there's Bony who - unlike Benteke - failed to rebuild at a 'smaller' club after flopping at the very top. Dembélé might have huge upside in him but has no experience in any of the top European leagues, let alone the Premier League, and signing him would represent even higher risk. Džeko seems settled in Rome and will be 32 in March. Slimani had a season to forget at Leicester and King isn't worth big money (just yet) after only one good campaign in career. Gray is piss poor as a main striker and that's about it when it comes to looking for a new man to lead the line.

The argument that Benteke only plays well for the relegation-battling teams makes me laugh every time. In fact, he flopped (as it is generally claimed) only at Liverpool. Yet he still managed 9 league goals with a frequency of one every 169 minutes. What's also worth noting is that 8 of them have come from crosses into the box. Besides their system under Klopp isn't kind at all to your typical centre forwards and it's no coincidence that under the German's reign the highest scorer from central positions and in a single campaign was Firmino with 11 goals.

PS. Benteke is one-dimensional, but Giroud and Džeko aren't? Even more so! The Belgian at least has a little bit pace left in him on the other hand.

He was a Rodgers signing, and when Klopp came in that was the end of him. The one touch play with quick movement does not suit him at all. He's a target man who needs crosses into the box. Wouldn't say he failed at Liverpool...for instance he didn't go long spells without scoring, he just didn't fit in to the style of play of the new manager.

I know, he's worse. Think we could do better than Benteke. He looked good at Villa, hasn't really looked good since. Pass

They're completely different types of player

Benteke is a target man, aerially dominant, plays with his back to goal a lot etc - in his early days at Villa he had a bit of pace too, but not so much now

Lukaku is bang average in the air, poor with his back to goal but is fast and powerful and wants the ball in behind

They're compared because they're tall, muscular, black, Belgian strikers. But their styles are completely different

I'm not saying I definitely want him by the way, but the comparison is just daft

Brilliant player. Don't care he played for THEM. Easily worth 35-40 million in today's market. Forget Lukaku, we wouldn't be trading one for the other. Lukaku was desperate to leave, we had no choice. Benteke, Rooney, Sandro plus DCL, Lookman would be great options.

Whilst I can understand the allure of him succeeding here after failing there, the thought of him failing here & the shoite you guys would cop would be immense!

I think he did, actually.

I might be wrong because I haven't checked this out and am just going from memory but I think he's been prone to quite long droughts wherever he's played. The flip side of that obviously being that he can go on real scoring streaks too.

*edited because I decided to look this up. Yes, he is prone to long scoring draughts, I just googled 'benteke drought' and there are headlines from his time at Villa (twice), Liverpool and Palace which allude to it. The Liverpool one mentions him not having scored in 11 games but not sure whether that was the end of it or not.

considering how bad he was made out to be by them lot, im sure he ended up with like 8 in 27 games, with half of them being sub appearances, so his strike rate was like 1 in 2 still, if you classed say 2 sub appearances as 1 full game (and its not even that)

EDIT: 9 in 29, which is 1 in 3, and that was them not playing to his strengths at all, and sub appearances

Top player, would be very Hungry to prove himself after his time over the road, he's proven he can score in the Prem.

Anything over 40m would be too much though, seems like we have unlimited money but will struggle to get the big names due to current stature and wage structure, Benteke is probably as good as we can do in the meantime.
