Interestingly this is exactly how I imagine @tommye to be, but with a scouse accent.

I KNOW how to change the speed - I'm trying to relate the settings to efficiency and, hopefully, quietness*.

*both from the sound of the pump and the whining of the missus.

I could not understand a word that guy was saying TBH lol- I have used YouTube for plumbing tips & it has saved me as on any taps that have cartridges now - not a rubber washer - I did work on irrigation in my plant nurseries, I know a few basics - I insure myself for the big jobs heating /Plumbing / Electrical etc - it's not that expensive on a Buildings/contents insurance - I just avoid Home serve they are very expensive ......

Its both. Either the pump is loud and the house is warm or the pump is quiet and the missus makes a noise.

All I seek is a peaceful existence.

I dumped Homeserve in double quick time. I took a smallish contract out on plumbing, about £7 per month. They tried to put it up to £38 per month. Obviously I cancelled.

They rip you off plus if you ever use them your policy next year goes through the roof - many home insurance have a far cheaper home emergency cover which does not affect your claims on your policy the next year ...
Plus it's far cheaper than homeserve ...it also covers far more than homeserve too...
