As for a replacement, if it was me I'd be looking at a Range Rover (not Sport) as it can do pretty much everything, and that Rolls Royce Wraith is nice (and massive) but probably wouldn't top my list. BMW 6-Series 4-door saloon is a sleek looking car (better than the 2-door), or perhaps the Mercedes S class saloon or coupe (neè CL), depending on what you're after.

if you go with the car make sure you get in touch with the taxman and don't rely on your company to do it for you (even if they say they will), far too easy to assume you're being taxed correctly on a company car only to get a big underpayment at the end of the year

I've got no idea how it works but I'm not sure if the tax I'd pay on the company car would come out of my salary, as the car allowance is on top of my basic. If it's the difference of less than £100 a month or so I'll probably go for the company car just for the convenience.

I couldn't trust myself with a fast car at the moment. I'm too immature and would certainly end up in a ditch or wrapped around a tree.

I'm 27 now so I should know better. I used to have a 1.6 Ford Fiesta (old shape) which was a little pocket rocket. How I never had a serious accident in it is beyond me. Driving much more carefully these days but the A406 brings out the worst in me!

the company car will have a C02 emissions figure, this equates to a certain percentage of whatever the car's on the road/list price, that's what you should pay tax on

where as you say the car allowance is just part of your pay

The car itself isn't actually very expensive, they're around $65k USD, so I don't think it'd really be end up any more expensive than some of the other options being considered.

Hm, oddly enough I'm supposedly very cultured behind the wheel, past my first month of having a license...

I just got the "WOOOOOO LICENSE WOOOOOOOO" hype out of the way pretty early on I guess lol
