'There ain't no replacement for displacement.'

Except for modern technology. Or turbochargers. Or super chargers. Or new ERS systems.

All technically superior of course but a bit dull.

I could force (!) myself to fit a blower and nitrous though.

We've got an 09 Ford Galaxy for shipping the kids around and camping trips etc. also a 98 Porsche Boxster. Completely impractical and drinks fuel for fun but stunning to drive. Can't get rid of it.

Nice!

Old coworker had a 63 1/2 Galaxie.

I've had 2 Rovers. They just can't stand the Texas heat and the stop/go traffic. Otherwise enjoyed them. We're back to all Lexus. Can't believe how reliable they've been.

A well tuned straight 4 can be great. V's are ace, of course, but with modern tuning, biggest isn't always best as you say.

Straight 6's are the best practical choice of engine if available. Power and smoothness of delivery, while also using led fuel than a V8.

Not sure what to replace it with neither...

My e46 330d has took the knock, thinking of replacing it with an e90 330d/335d m sport with an e46 m3 as a wild card option. Can't decide which though as i prefer manual which the 335d doesn't have but the 330d is a single turbo and i like the sound of the twin turbo in the 335d, the m3 is probably not a good idea but it's somewhat within reach and very tempting!

I am not around enough to use it, @mrs the esk doesn't really like driving it so not much point in keeping it to be honest.

Not sure what to replace it with neither, Range Rover is @mrs the esk's choice but I am not sure.
I'll keep it ticking over if you like lol

As for a replacement, if it was me I'd be looking at a Range Rover (not Sport) as it can do pretty much everything, and that Rolls Royce Wraith is nice (and massive) but probably wouldn't top my list. BMW 6-Series 4-door saloon is a sleek looking car (better than the 2-door), or perhaps the Mercedes S class saloon or coupe (neè CL), depending on what you're after.

When you go looking give me a call lol

Got the choice of a company car or car allowance. I'm not too sure what to choose. I'm not certain what the allowance is but it'd probably give me more more overall, however I like the idea of having a brand new, fully insured, serviced, MOT'd car. I think it'd be one of a Golf, Civic, Astra or Focus. I don't think I get a choice what I get at first, but I've driven the latest Golf and Astra, and I liked them both (Golf marginally more than the Astra). Surprised at how far Vauxhall has come.

if you go with the car make sure you get in touch with the taxman and don't rely on your company to do it for you (even if they say they will), far too easy to assume you're being taxed correctly on a company car only to get a big underpayment at the end of the year
