'working with Marcel to identify the best players'
'it is the job of the Director of Football to get the best team'

Seems like he'll be taking less of a front role on player acquisition, which was what many of us speculated anyway but still interesting.

you do realise that they work together. It’s not interesting, it’s a model that almost every club use. It removes the burden off the manager.

He answered those questions pretty well tbf. Seems like he knows what he’s up against here. Knows it’s a project and won’t happen overnight. Has already seen the quality of players and knows the style that he wants to bring and the type of football required. I’m very optimistic with him here. Given the proper backing by the board and the players actually showing him the respect he deserves and putting in the performances it’s very exciting times for the club.

Let’s be honest, some of those journos should have grown a pair of balls and asked the question direct rather than skirt around it like absolute weasels.

we all know they wanted to ask “why have you come here, you’re too big and could have went somewhere else”

One journo did outright ask that to be fair. Ancelotti answered 'the project, the ambition of the club'

Carlo also refuted the idea that he's only managed top clubs, referring back to his time at Reggiana, which is fair enough, though it was 24 years ago.

He then insisted that his Parma side was not a top team - though they had finished 2nd in Serie A the season before he joined and had players like Buffon, Cannavaro, Thuram, Baggio, Chiesa, Crespo and Asprilla - so perhaps he's not got a particularly strong memory.

Club usually give a guideline for questions prior to the presser. Some even insist on all questions being submitted prior to the presser so the phrasing can be pre-approved.

Many journo's don't want to go off-piste as, if they irk the club or Ancelotti, they won't be invited back or they'll receive less flexbility or less favourable access.
