What assumptions?
He didn't resign. That is a fact. If he resigned Everton would not have needed to speak with Real Madrid about compensation.
The rest of my post is just opinion
; 1 that he would have happily forfeited bonuses (resigned) to ensure he got his move back to Madrid, and 2 that the club would have had him sign away any future bonuses before he was done with us.
That's why managers don't resign any more. When was the last time a Premier League manager walked away from the job? They're all picking up millions to be fired or the club is getting compensated by the club the manager wants to go to.
But you're right that none of us know. One assumption I will make is that it'll turn out to be an extremely amateur error on Everton's part.
Mate, your tirade was full of comments such as 'Surely wouldn't you think', 'he would have forfeited bonuses', 'and if we refused a mutual severance', 'if the club didn't sign anything'...
Every one an assumption, as you and I don't know any of that to be the case.
What do we know?
A tax issue, possibly, over a bonus payment, we're told now by those who 'might' know.
