Exactly. The next time they meet up, because they're not refunded or even offered altenative matches, they probably won't decide to watch Everton will they?

Well, that sucks. But they won't be watching any other football matches either if they apply the same standard to every club.

It's very clear that 1. there are no refunds from the club and 2. this is standard industry practice. It sucks that this person's friends are sick and can't make it, but it has nothing to do with the club.

Why should they be offered either?

To repeat my other post (that Kurt went on to confuse the life out of me with his replies on!)

It's about good customer service, plus the bigger picture, if you're not refunded £175 then you're not likely to go as often, or even at all. So in the long run Everton lose far more than £175, plus those people he was bringing who's to say some of those may have been potential big fans who got hooked and so kept going back? The loss in the long run could easily go into the thousands.

Massive stretch there. And as pfim says, it's not Everton being unfair, and it's not even about good customer service. You entered into a contract and knew the conditions before you bought the tickets. If you didn't, then you shouldn't have bought them.

Yeah, if they don't refund the money then those people might not come again, but that's a big maybe. The only certainty is that they already have the money from the tickets those people purchased, its not worth risking that.

It's not, it's got everything to do with common sense.

You buy a ticket, you can't go for whatever reason, who's fault is that? Is it Evertons? No it isn't

Can they re-sell the ticket on the eve of the game? no they can't.

So why should you be entitled to refund whether it's 1 ticket or 6?

You scenario about potential future earnings etc, is pure speculation & nothing to do with what constitutes good customer service regarding these tickets.

so to follow others, have you listed them for sale elsewhere? or have you already secured this and are literally beating the ever loving piss and turnip out of this long dead and decomposing horse*

*metaphor. (please don't do that. ever. to any animal. especially a horse. ok. maybe a zebra. i don't like them. horse triflin' asshats.)

How the f*** do you beat a turnip out of a dead horse ? That's some magic

If Everton want to retain and get new fans then perhaps they should reconsider their refund policy, because he's obviously not happy, if they're not too bothered then we can just say so. So in that respect it is to do with the club. Everton should not be Delboy down the market, I've got your money so tough, these are potential cfuture customers.

By refund policy, that could include offering alternative matchday tickets, or advising him on stubhub. It doesn't necessarily mean a full refund but it could do.

Re point 1, whether it's clear or not can depend on how he obtained his tickets. Eg, did he buy them over the phone, and was he told at the time? I don't know. He can answer that, not me.

Thus depriving the club of possible revenue, because those seats could be sold to somebody else. The club normally sells every unobstructed seat for home league matches, so unless you want a big post in the way the club would be depriving another fan.

The comparison to Del Boy is ridiculous, they've done nothing wrong.

I hate it when consumers expect businesses to bend over backwards for them because of circumstances beyond their control.

The club already do some great offers, a £99 kids season ticket, three games for £90, etc.

I disagree, it is about customer service and future custom. Football is based on fans coming back, it's not like the market where you make your money then get off.

Why not offer them alternative matches? It softens the blow and he comes back.

Brennan,

I know it's a contract, and Everton write the contract, so why not review it to make sure it's a really good contract?

Anyway I've got to get off from work soon and you won't change my opinion, and no doubt you're now thinking that I won't change yours either. So I'll have to concede the last word to yourselves.

Either way, it makes no difference what we think, we don't work for Everton, and what we put in here won't change a thing.

Put it this way mate, if offering alternative matches or a full refund was the best way to go for future profitability, why do practically no big clubs do it ?

Done !
