Cahill - unmissable or journey man?

If we are going to continue with Cahill then we need to continue with Beckford or bring Yakubu back into contention when he's ready. Cahill and Saha play too centrally, neither of them run the channels or drift out there to link up, they basically play the same game. Far too interested in winning headers, playing with there back to goal and holding the ball up.

It's about having variety really, and we don't have it at present. Someone who can run needs to be used with right and we need to find the right balance upfront, whether it's Rodwell or Cahill or Saha, Yakubu or Beckford.

4-5-1 has had its Day for Me, its not Cahills fault, its the tactics, we are way above 4-5-1, way, way above, none of the great teams play 4-5-1 anymore, we must try something new.

I would go with :

4-2-3-1-3

Tim is an excellent player for us and will go down in our history when he hangs up his boots.

I cannot see him ever leaving to join another PL club.

It has been suggested that Tim Cahill's only real quality is his goalscoring ability and, for a midfielder, he does little else if not finding the target. He proved his doubters wrong on Saturday, creating five chances from open play, the most of any player in the Premier League this weekend. He showed his combative nature by winning nine of the 11 challenges his contested in the game against Wolves, including four in the opposition penalty area. One of these, in the 43rd minute, saw him nick the ball away from a defender after a Mikel Arteta free-kick, before turning and firing into the top of the net to give Everton the lead.

He did do well against Wolves, and deserves to keep his place in the team on that performance, but as I and others have said, we want to see more of those combative all round performances and less of the 'I'll score a goal and disappear'.

When Cahill's playing in form he's up there with the very best. Its as simple as that.

He showed that although his form dropped last season and many called him on it, as being past it that he really wasn't.

He's a scrapper but he's also got other sides to his game and in football its rare to see a attacking midfielder be like him.

But not only that he can show the all round side of his game which he does have.

Defenders hate him. We love him.

Thats all I need to know.

Amen, Damon. Amen.

depends. If he's up front and balls are being put in the air for him he's a monster. In cm he's average. His best position is up front so of course moyes plays him in midfield.

What!?

His best position is the secondary striker/attacking mid role, and that's where he plays. When does he ever play CM? And he only played up front for that period when we had no strikers. He can do that job well too, but inbetween the striker and the midfield; the 'Cahill role', is his best position.

I had this realisation last season, after his backheel assist in the Europa league. Cahill is a good footballer, but exceptional with his head. So long as he's fit, he should be starting, in my opinion.

FFS. He was the only on the scoresheet today for us, and there's still people questioning him.

That was a superb goal...
