Manager David Moyes has confessed he does not know if John Heitinga will remain an Everton player after the next transfer window closes.

The Toffees defender has been linked with a January switch to Bayern Munich and the Dutchman has done little to stem the rumours after revealing he would be "definitely interested" in moving to the German giants.

Heitinga has played a bit-part role for Everton this season after failing to gain full fitness following his World Cup exploits with Holland.

And Moyes admits he is totally in the dark over the future of the former Ajax and Atletico Madrid performer.
Competition

He said: "I don't know if Heitinga will go in January, I really don't.

"There has been no official contact from anybody regarding Heitinga, and I don't know if Everton will cash in come January.

"His character and type is one who will battle, and I have no reason to think it's anything other than just speculation.

"I haven't heard from Johnny or any clubs. He has to get on with it. There is competition for places and he is involved in that."

That's not a good sign, is it? The manager actually coming out and saying he doesn't know if a player will be leaving in Jan...

Personally, seeing as Jags is a demigod, I would happily have Sylvain Distin's babies, and we'd no doubt get a tidy sum for a world cup finalist, I wouldn't be too arsed if we sold him to strengthen another position.

Compeltely different quote elsewhere -

"I don’t know. We have had no offers, but you hear bits of rumours like everyone else. There has been no official contact from anybody regarding Johnny Heitinga.

"I think his character and type is one who will battle for his place, and I have no reason to think anything other than it (the interest from other clubs) is just speculation.

Love the press me.

He wont go in January...and we wont get £10million for him in January either if he did go.

Heitinga, Pienaar and Bilya...that's a bit of a gutting of the squad.

always love a play on words for a thread title-well done there. Said the same about this the other day. I have no problem with players if they want to leave for champions league football, we can't guarantee that, are pretty far from getting it i think. Just would like their transfer out the door as quick as if we cant convince them to stay. Plus he isn't in my starting eleven, even without this all going on. If he did go, bearing in mind he's played most the season in midfield. Would we have to get another player in at the back, or call joseph back perhaps? One injury and we'd be pretty short. As for midfield i think we're covered as long as we replace pienaar if he goes too

I think it's fair to say that's the general consensus.

I'd be disappointed if he's still here beyond January. He doesn't deserve to be a high earner at the club. He isn't on a par with Fellaini or Rodwell in midfield and I'd even prefer Nev there to be honest.

Sell him, and bring in Taylor or recall Yobo back as cover.

We've got no time for egoistic sulking wannabes.

He's more accomplished than Rodwell...and completely different to Fellaini who is box to box leaving Arteta open.

Just saying...

Just disappointing to be fair. There's a reason we dont sign "name" players and never move on.

if he goes he goes. been bit part this season but his best position is C/B.

hope we get spared a kanchelskis style interview when he leaves.

Of course re: Rodwell, but disagree with the Fellaini shout. Fellaini is undoubtedly twice the player when told to sit and control what's in front of him (See Man City). It's when he's chasing back he has his problems.

At the moment, with a fully fit squad, would Heitinga be named in most Evertonians sides? I'd say no chance in midfield and on current form, would he get ahead of Distin at the back?

So then it boils down to whether we have a sulking egoistic highest earner centre half sat on the bench.

Exactly. And of course that should be a no. We all know we can't afford to have a player like that sat on the bench. As to why is for another thread. He hasn't earned his starting spot in most peoples team, that's his fault not ours

True, but on evidence of this season when he's in the middle with Arteta...he's further forward with Arteta very deep. And I've always said Moyes should play certain players for certain games depending on what they are. Heitinga offers more protection in the midfield than Fellaini does...Fellaini is more of a threat in the final third as well as centre mid IMO.

And, yeah, I'd still have him over Distin...especially when both or centre halves like to aimlessly hoof it forward to nobody. Heitinga has a better passing range. Distin has been solid one game, duff the next...and he's 32. We need another centre half next season if we're being honest...whether we chance it on Duffy is up in the air and Yobo aint coming back (and why would he?).

And I've said before, we're unable to keep or bag "name" players and keep them sweet. Funds play a big part but I sense a big gutting of the team at the end of the season.

I think we'll be saying goodbye soone enough to a whole host of players.

Heitinga defo, either now or summer.
Pienaar this January if someone wants to pay up to avoid a race for his signature in the summer.
Bily - just not able to do what Moyes wants of him. He'll be gone shortly.
Jagielka.Controversial, maybe, but wont be around much longer if Moyes has said the only reason he's stayed thus far is because Arsenal made a low offer.

Probably add Yak or Saha to that IMO...as I dont think he's happy with the strikers especially after saying he knew he needed to strengthen that area in the summer but had no money...

And Yobo.

Gonna be tough...especially if we dont finish in the top 6 which is looking tougher each week

To cite that old cliché.

"Form is temporary, class is permanent."

He's shown neither this season, buh-bye.

I've got to agree with the both of you there.
