Broken relationship with players ?

There was no accountability for performance at Everton , on or off the field, for many a year. Add to that a seemingly weak Manager who let players get away with anything on field, and it is then rather easy to come to the conclusion players couldn't be bothered playing for him. Who was going to make them accountable?
Goodness me where would we be right now were it not for new ownership?

How about some accountability for your own performance? The players are getting off way too easy here IMO.

DNGAF who your boss is or isn't it is up to you to hold yourself accountable for your own performance.

Especially if you are a freakin millionaire playing a child's game.

Don't disagree with you. Overpaid, and in most cases, overrated footballers.
Thankfully there will be a rebuild occurring very soon.

I do worry about players downing tools and they could do it again if they don't like the next manager so hoepfully the new manager will find the bad apples and get rid.

The leader sets the standards in any organisation. Their leader didn't care about losing therefore the players didn't care about losing. He accepted mediocre performances, in fact he praised them. The players get a clean slate from me their last boss was a blagger.

I think too much has been made of the players 'downing tools'. Look at the derby and the Leicester game for example, and you'll see that many of the problems stemmed from lack of organisation and a lack of belief. In both games, the players were trying to cling on but then lost all belief once the game got away from them. They then became a shambles. No player would ever down tools in a cup semi final, particularly our players, many of whom don't have/may never get a winners medal - but they still lost that game in 90 minutes, and were thoroughly outplayed for half the game.

A few people have used the example of everyday workers, and it does ring true. It's very easy for things to spiral once things start going badly. A couple of years ago I went through a period when I just couldn't hit my monthly targets, and the longer it went on, the worse my performance got. It's a vicious circle, where your confidence drains away and your willingness to take responsibility and put yourself in the firing line diminishes. It's not a case of downing tools, simply that an irreparable breakdown of trust and belief has a massive effect on performance.

I think Lukaku's comments about Martinez are a bit classless.Even it is true i think it's a low blow hanging Roberto out to dry like that.Unlike that prima donna Roberto Martinez had a genuine understanding and respect for Everton FC and it's heritage. This coming as well from the man who bottled chance after chance to win the FA Cup semi final for us.We can do without this ego.He is a good player but he misses a lot of chances as well.He really isn't as good as he think's he is and we can get a more clinical replacement in after he's gone.

I wonder how genuine Jags' hammy "injury" was - or had he had a bust up with the boss and was only used by a desperate Martinez in the make or break FA cup game. That comment to Barkley in the tunnel "it's HIM" (they're booing) - just the way he said it for me. Then despite being - season over he turns up after Martinez is shown his cards, under Unsie, and seemed to play fine.

Martwinless would say it's taken out of contest and Lukaku didn't mean it :D and the atmosphere is very good and everyone wants to perform and win for the club

Even a blind man would noticed that phenomenal one lost players looooong time ago

There's a middle ground whereby, rather than totally losing interest, you're not fully motivated, make some sort of effort but, when you hit problems, you turn your back on it.

Spot on.

One of my best mates who works at Finch Farm ( real, not make believe ) described the atmosphere amongst the senior players as " subdued ", during the last few months of the Martinez reign. Stating that they seemed fed up, rather than unhappy, Baines in particular.

This changed the moment Martinez left.

If the players were unhappy they should have put in transfer requests....

But insteas they were picking up their wages.
