Brighton's home Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday, 17 September has been postponed because of a planned rail strike.

The Premier League says the fixture has been "regrettably" called off after receiving a request from Brighton.
The league added in a statement that industrial action on the rail network means there will be "no public transport available for supporters".

A new date for the game at Amex Stadium is yet to be announced.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said: "While we fully appreciate this will be of huge disappointment to both sets of fans, and causes disruption to both teams' fixture schedules as well as those of supporters, the safety of fans of both clubs, our matchday staff, players and officials must be the priority.

"We have taken into consideration how difficult it would be for fans of both clubs to attend the match without access to the rail network and we looked at a number of options and various contingency plans.

"This included additional travel options or moving the match to earlier or later in the same week, with Sunday afternoon the latest the fixture could be played on that weekend due to the international break.

"But it simply was not possible to play the match with a full capacity crowd in attendance."

Are the PL taking the pi55 ?
Selhurst Park to the Amex Stadium is 46 miles so, allowing for a bit of traffic, about 90 minutes by car or coach - it's not like Palace were running a fleet of special trains.

That's annoying, i have tickets to this

Problem with the AMEX is that most home fans use trains to get there too, it's not exactly central Brighton

There is nowhere to park. Almost literally nowhere. The stadium (well out of town) was designed and built with public transport as the main (almost sole) form of transport.
It seems the sensible thing to do. When games with transport difficulties have not been called off in the past there has been uproar. Now they are; still uproar.
Perhaps we could walk?

Reported for trying to get around the swear filter. That AndyC will take a dim view for sure.

Oh, hang on...

I get your point but that’s not technically true. There are 3 or 4 big Park & Ride car parks around the ground that have run every match day since the Amex opened. I’ve done Everton away at Amex twice and on both occasions it’s seemed that a huge number of fans use the P&R’s. To me these seemed busier than the train station that’s outside the ground.

What is the capacity of these park and rides.? What is the capacity of the stadium? The park and rides are full when all the trains are running normally so err....
The fact remains that without train services and official coaches ( for both clubs) the police cannot track where and when fans will arrive. This, given the mutual loathing between the two sets of fans and the history of trouble at this fixture, will also have been a factor in the decision to postpone.
