Boxing

From what i have seen it was Ali being Ali but took it way to far. Fraizer never forgave him.

My understanding of what went on between those two was based on Ali referring to Smokin' Joe as an Uncle Tom, his comment came after Fraizer had taken a barb to Ali's instant conversion to Islam, Joe was a devout Christian. It should be remembered that Islamic radicalization was rife back in the sixties, today's coverage implies its something new, it certainly is not. I honestly believe he was genuine in his beliefs but because he was considered an ill educated fool the press went to town, Ali had come from the depths of poverty to the pinnacle of his sport but he did upset and insult a whole of of people on the way. Cleveland Williams was racially insulted as was Ernie Terrell, the later being called an Uncle Tom during the fight. Ali even extended the Terrell fight to hurt his man as much as he could, not really the actions of a top class sportsman.

Ali's stance against enrollment into the forces was viewed by many as the act of a coward and not a conscientious objector, he paid dearly for that decision. If someone doesn't want to fight why should they. Ali was an enigma who so happened to be the best boxer I ever saw, Mayweather included, there was no one he wouldn't fight including a Japanese sumo champion.

Rest in peace Ali

there is a documentary with Fraizer going on about his relationship with Ali and there fights, might be on you tube, gives a good insight to what went on.
He called Frazier a gorilla ,uncle tom, despite Frazier being from a dirt poor and a working class background, and had tried to help Ail,when he was banned from boxing.
If you can get get radio shows on your pc or phone, there was a program on late last week, BBC 4 after 11pm,about Ali, Patterson ,Liston and Ali,s lack of support for the civil rights movement,Patterson went on countless marches , meeting and was shown with Martin Luther king on many occasions,Ali didn't share a stage with him till 1967, but Ali called Patterson an uncle tom.
His views on racial desecration at the time under the influence of the nation of Islam were a bit extreme , if he had been a white man saying them he would have been demonized, look at the Parkinson interview or the guardian interview around the same time, both are pretty shocking, ironically his great grandfather was a white Irish man Abe Grady.
Great boxer, complex character, the best ever? you could make a case for about a dozen others pre tv , Sugar Ray Robinson, Gans ect but he had an influence none of the others had on a worldwide stage , Joe Louis was a great hero to black Americans , but even he pales along side Ali on a global stage.

Just watch the boxnation card

Verdejo was class

Lomachenko though WOW

Will watch the sky card in a bit I've avoided the results so far .

Just got back to England and caught the Lomachenko knock out, he is a special fighter, no doubt. Just praying he's not smacked up to his eyeballs.

Andrade looked class considering he had 2 years out and his last fight was Brian fcking rose lol . 154lb division is suddenly looking very interesting .

Good fight that, fair play to Crollafor taking these fights. I thought he'd get beat the last 2 (3 if you include the draw) and I've currently got him getting beat here as well
ya exactly.id say most including me thought he would get bladdered last time out but he had a spot on game plan and executed it perfectly so ya never know with the lad.

been watching a few Ali documentaries

seems like he had serious beef with Joe Frazier

i know that Ali referred to Frazier as an Uncle Tom quite alot and race played a large factor in their rivalry but do you think that this stemmed from the fact that Frazier always referred to Ali as Clay and do you think that Ali took exception to this and found it to be an attack on his beliefs so he retaliated to Frazier in such a ferocious manner?

anyone know who started it, was it Frazier who goaded Ali first by referring him to Clay constantly or was this only done after Ali had already goaded Frazier by calling him an Uncle Tom?

I've seen the documentary mentioned by others and the one line that has always stood out for me when Frazier was talking about Ali now (or at least when the documentary was made). 'He used to laugh at the way I talked....well look at him now'

Very sad and pretty much proved that Frazier never forgave Ali.
