That may sound a tad bit trite but I believe how I became an Evertonian bear a strong witness to that statement.

The first footie match that I watched in its entirety was the 88 fa cup final when Wimbledon lifted the trophy against the dark side.

I was never a footie fan prior to that and only showed a passing interest during the world cup end even then just checking the results in the local rag rather than watching an actual match.

I happen to watch the fa cup final by accident only because my dad was a casual fan and he liked the way Liverpool played.

To extend a short story longer, he actually was rooting for the underdog, a team I had not heard of before and I found myself slowly being captivated by the (not so) beautiful game (it was Wimbledon after all).

Was ecstatic that the underdogs won and knew that I'd found a new favourite pass time.

It would have made sense to support Wimbledon but that was not to be. Everton just happened without rhyme or reason.

I could have made an educated choice seeing that the Blues had won the league the season before and that they were the founding members of the league.

But I was absolutely oblivious to any of that, I had zero knowledge of their history and had never set foot in England let alone Goodison.

It wasn't the easiest of rides as I had to wait seven years to see us lift a trophy but my passion never wavered and it never has.

Absolutely believe that I was chosen.

Sorry but I do think this born not manufactured stuff is a load of tripe. I find it really embarrassing just like the marketing ploy 'we go the game' and the other nonsense ' Once Everton has touched you nothing is the same' Even though the last quote was apparently spoken by the great Alan Ball it's still nonsense. It's only a game after all.
I come from a Man Utd family my dad and brother went home and away for donkey's years, my dad took me to OT when I was very young in the late 60's but I wasn't that interested. When I went to school I met a big Evertonian and started supporting them mainly due to him and Bob Latchford and the Shoot magazine. There was no divine intervention.
I know some massive passionate Kopites, Utd fans, Rochdale, Stockport, you name it. Were no different

Are you in the right forum?
Being an Everton fan is something to be proud of. Of course there is no Devine intervention and the "born not manufactured" thing is something which has been etched to make the fans feel special.
But it does make people feel special.
No different? How dare you sir.

Ah, thank the lord someone was prepared to say this. Fully agree. Either you support a team cos your parents did and they forced it upon you, or you found some other reason to support your chosen team, perhaps they were successful at the time, perhaps you just stuck a pin in the paper and took that team, perhaps they were on telly one day and did something that you liked and so it stuck.

The idea that you're pre-ordained with a football team is just dumb.

I am in the right forum I went home and away for 15 years plus have been going the match since 1975. My point is we are no different to any other loyal supporter whether that be a kopite, Man Utd, Doncaster. We all feel are club is special. We are just like everyone else. If you can't see that you've been fooled by the Everton Marketing machine.

Mate no offense but I think you sound like an absolute helmet.

I read that more like the character of the club appeals to a certain type of person and when you become a supporter it just feels 'right.'

Both of my grandads were reds and both of their sons were blues. My arl fellar's first match was a derby game that we lost at Anfield that he attended with a RS scarf around his neck. Walked out of the ground and turned to my grandad, handed back the scarf and said he wanted to be an Evertonian (much to my grandad's dismay).

It's in your blood mate and you won't persuade me otherwise.

I certainly think that you associate with a club, and part of that can come from your parents wanting you to join that particular 'family'. But this 'born not manufactured' could and can be applied to all clubs. What makes Everton fans think they're so special?

"Born not manufactured", "Fabric" - All part of the idiotic PR language dreamed up under the Kenwright regime for suckers.
It,s 2016 and we have a new owner in town so lets keep it real.
