I think the impression of the mccanns comes from a mixture of:

what they did in leaving the child (bad parenting and it probably will haunt them for the rest of their lives),

Being perceived to have avoided police charges of neglect when others have been charged (people have viewed it as "if they were poor, they would've been charged"),

Getting a publicist early doors (people viewed it as managing an image).

Unfortunately, we may never know the truth of what happened. Even with this German bloke, there may be no concrete evidence, only that he is a criminal who was in the area at the time.
 
Unless he confesses I very much doubt they'll charge him, without a body nothing can be proven. Think the Germans are basically saying "this is the guy but we'll never fully know all the details".

Hopefully it can bring some sort of closure to this case regardless.

They never found April Jones’ body yet they secured a conviction.
(Possibility the body was burned in the fireplace I believe)
 
A beautiful child was abducted 13 years ago. She may be alive or may be dead, either way it was probably not very nice. Her parents have gone through Hell. A potential suspect may or may not be getting parole in the very near future. The Portuguese Police still haven’t a clue. Meanwhile posters on here are more concerned with the true meaning or application of the word ‘mistake’. You couldn’t make it up......

I've not seen any details as to what was used by them, but Calpol Night was widely used back then, and, as well as paracetamol, Calpol Night contained an antihistamine which caused drowsiness and basically knocked your kids out.
 
.....interested to know if the German suspect was on Scotland Yard’s radar or whether this is a totally new lead. The Yard has spent many years looking at phone records and activity in the Playa de Luz area, so I would expect them to have identified him before now.

i know Madeleine’s grandad (Kate’s Dad) passed away recently having been in poor health for many years. A big Evertonian, Maddy’s loss took a massive toll on Brian and the other grandparents. It’s not only an unimaginable tragedy for poor Gerry and Kate.

see a mum has today been jailed for 2 years for neglect for leaving her 9 year old son in a caravan whilst She went to another to drink with her friend . Tawnee Williams was on holiday and a dog left with the boy mawled and killed him.

the court felt it was neglect not a mistake nor that the mum had already suffered enough . Another absolute tragedy but it felt at least partially relevant .
