I have lived in Bath for the last 15 years. It is a fluffy, safe middle-class city with a big hospital (my wife works for the NHS)

It's expensive and lacks any real edge but it is a good place to bring up kids etc.

If you've got the time, go on a UK coach tour and pick out the spots you like and then check out the practical aspects with regard to
work opportunity, etc. There are a lot of very attractive areas of Britain, but others not so.

It's probably the same in NZ, but I've only been to Auckland, so I can't judge. Try before you buy.

Trivia. It's the only county in England with no motorways.

It is very white/middle class so we have some amusing moments when I take my Asian or Black mates in the local - not because the regulars are racist, just because it is an unusual occurrence.
