Barca victory a template for Everton?

Alonso, Reina, and Arteta aren't Catalan though. So ofcourse they cherrypicked them. Same with Messi. They got them right from when they were children, purely because they're Barcelona, and which dad wouldn't want his son at their academy?

This isn't something that can be imitated.

I don't see why not. Clearly here in Britain we are limited by the 90 minute rule (although not sure how that works considering we signed the likes of Agard from Arsenal) but our academy has a number of youngsters from overseas, and Moyes has signed a good few this summer alone. I don't think we should give up and say that Barca are so good because of who they are. What they do and the way they do it clearly plays a huge part, and there's no reason why we can't replicate that.

The difference is cultural. I dare say the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Messi would not have come through the British system because they're too small. Even now we get people on here poo poo-ing Kissock purely because of his size. This is driven largely by the competitive nature of youth football, with results seemingly more important than education. Concentrate on the process and the results will come in the end. Concentrate on results first though and you'll fill the youth teams with bigger players with less technical ability simply because they're the youngsters who get results in youth football.

Their sheer size and reputation makes them an easy choice for gifted young players. I also think their system over there that they play in C and B teams before coming to the first team, makes players improve for playing competitive football at a young age. They learn far more doing that than playing in under 21 games or reserve sides.

Don't think Ronaldhino came through the youth system at Barca!

Don't think he played for them last night either ;)

To put things another way, the Barca team last night cost them a combined total of £51m.

To put that into contrast, the first choice Everton team of Howard, Hibbo, Jags, JLo, Baines, Neville, Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill, MoFro, Yak cost £53m.

So who do we support? There can be no doubt that David Moyes has done better than most in getting players in and developing them without spending colossal amounts overall.

I was using it as a parallel comparing us to the so called moneybags of our league and in Spain comparing Barca to the likes of Real.

Just trying to point out that Barca have become champions of Europe without spending big bucks. When you look at how much money United have spent as a contrast it surely offers hope to us doesn't it? I appreciate that Barca still have the resources to leave the likes of Caceres and Hleb out of the side but still, 7 youth players in a CL winning side offers us hope.

Get a big challenge in early, neville hard on drogba, get the crowd goin' even more than they will already be and weel be on our way!

Look lad I admire your heart but................please stop acting like its half won . To say its tempting fate is an understatement .

Straight red that Goat . Seriously your dismissed . If we get beat now you should hang your head in shame for two decades . Personally ill never forgive you for that.... ever .

Sorry Bruce, it would appear that we soiled your thread. Just got a little excited with the whole Cup Final thingy.

But I think thats what Moyes is trying to build, slowly, slowly catchy monkey. Get them young and drill whats expected of them. You can see the way Rodwell and Gosling act, they both seem level headed.
