He is surrounded by Chelsea players in the England team who he once played with, and those players are very influential. Now he plays for City, he is once again in the limelight regarding the press, and the press seem to have a large impact on the England line up.

Not a fan of him but Bridge has looked pretty good this season while Baines has looked average at best. Baines also has alot of trouble beating quality teams off the dribble.
I've always thought Lescott was a better LB than CB.

I've been pleased to see Baines taking more set pieces recently. I think he has looked shaky defensively this season. He is capable of challenging for an England place but I think he'll have to put in a lot of hard work first to show that he's reliable defending and to improve his set pieces. Maybe he could be the man to see England through to some penalty shootout victories in 2012 ?!

Can someone explain to me the need to have these pointless English national games every other week, and furthermore the caliber of teams is rather questionable, is it Slovenia at the weekend, I tend to forget rather quickly as soon as these games are made, all rather boring and predictable, I was hoping to take in an Everton game this weekend but instead we have some rather trivial exercise against some 150th ranked outsiders, not the first time even.
Just qualify the national side for South Africa and let's hear no more about it, appreciate there are Everton player/s involved but even so.
And what will happen, qualify, quarter final exit on penalties. Big song and dance over nothing, call me a moaning yank or whatever, not xenophobic, but all these pointless stupid freindlies against Greenland or Bermuda are becoming a bit much.

I think of all our defenders, Yobo probably has the best ball at feet skill, and is quite a good dribbler. The fact he has pace is an advantage too.

He doesn't take people on like a winger but not many fullbacks do, Evra is one of the few I've seen who can beat a defender one on one consistently. Ashley Cole rarely does it, he uses his winger like Baines alot of the time.
Baines is composed, intelligent, has great movement off the ball and is a pass and move type fullback. He's the best defender we have at bringing the ball out of defence, by quite a distance.
