Baines.....or ?

Just speculation.... you might as well start speculating about any of our players.

Why wouldn't Coleman be more likely to attract an offer? He is not far off Baines' level these days and is still improving.

No-one rates Coleman thats why. Hes a 72 ON FIFA FFS

Can you replace Baines, though?

.

Of course he can be replaced.

Get some perspective.

£20 million for a 29 year old full back would be a great deal.

If he wants to go, that is.

This is what I would like cleared up once and for all.

Did Baines want to go to OT but is too much of a decent lad to act the bollox and agitate for the move?

And if so, would he still rather go there?

If the answer is "yes", then take the dough and move on.

If he wants to stay here, that would be great.......but we really need Leighton himself to make that clear so there isn't this uncertainty lurking in the background as we look like making a fist of a CL push this season.

Where's the BT money Bill?

Didn't we get a tv windfall start of the summer?

As has been stated many, many times, the TV money is dependent on final league position and actually arrives in the summer. Many clubs borrowed against it in order to fund their summer transfers - it appears that rightly or wrongly, we did not. I suspect that we may attempt to do so in January, when we have a better impression on where we might finish in May, but only in order to try to make Lukaku's move permanent. Problem is, the better he plays the less likely it is Chelsea will let him go.

Goat's summary of the finances is, to me, far more likely than the possibility that we have £15m in the kitty.

In answer to the OP: if a big enough bid came in I would shake Baines' hand, thank him for his faultless professionalism and sell him. No player is bigger than the club. It would need to be a big bid though, because we would have to replace not just the league's best left back but also a top-tier free-kick specialist: this could easily require two players.

keep Baines in January if we are serious about a champions league place, and if signing Lukaku is meant to be the money will have to come from else where.

I'd be way beyond surprised - I'd be over the moon and into the orbit of Jupiter. No way are City, United and Chelsea all going to miss out on the Champions League spots.

I'd say you're right about Chelsea and Citeh.

But I can really see United struggling to make that top four.

I mean, Arsenal and Spurs are going to be real hot contenders.

Liverpool are in with a shout as are EFC.

Take Rooney and RVP out of United's first XI and they are bereft of matchwinners.

Of the seven realistic contenders for those top four places, I see United as being the most vulnerable and most likely to miss out based on what we have seen thus far.

That Baggies result is of huge significance.......not even for the result so much as for the way Clarke sent his team out there to win. not just hang on and hope for the best.

The fear factor is gone now, the rolling over by EPL managers for their guru (Fergie) is gone now...they sre finding themselves in a whole new ball game.

And once the refs realise Fergie ain't sat there glowering at them from the dugout and the soft pennos and dodgy red cards start drying up. like against Palace, then Old Trafford sill be a cardboard fortress.

Don't want to lose Baines but every player has his price and we may have to accept that, but for 20mill+.

Fellaini went for a good price and arguably as a team we are now better off without him. Has he been missed ask yourself.

They do look the most vulnerable of last season's top four, I'll give you that. I'd love nothing more than us snatching the place from them, but there's a crazy amount of football to come and, as you point out, seven teams going for those places. It's more competitive than ever.

Got that right. I can see us in the top 4 come April, and suddenly conceding penalties, having players sent off etc to ensure the "chosen clubs" end up in their rightful place for the runners up league, so UEFA can maintain the status quo.

We're just not welcome at the party. Look at the last time we gatecrashed, they had to dig Collina out of retirement, and disallow a perfectly good goal to do us.

Bitter? Moi?

Indeed.

Thay called Colina out of retirement to ensure that global TV "brand" Villareal could take our place in the group stage.....

I see the Sunday papers are trying to sell him this morning again.

Apparently United will bid 15 plus Valencia (the player not the Spanish team).
Or Spurs want him after contract negotiations 'broke down'.

We could play a game of 'Make up the next Baines Rumour'.

Go....

Whats the spurs link? Utd one is nonsense, 15mil and a player worth about the same who moyes is playing?!

Next will be cleverley due to his old wigan loan.

Baines won't leave in January. He's a Blue and a throwback to a previous era where love of a club was more important than bundles of cash. I'd be surprised if he didn't see his career out at Goodison.

Stubbs apparently said baines wanted to go to united in the summer.
