Just wanted to pose this question....

If in Jan we receive the mooted 20mil+ bid for a then 29 year old Baines and had a bit of cash from the summer....would you;

A -- Reject the bid

B -- Accept the bid, add some cash and sign 20 year old Lukaku

C -- Add cash and sign 28 year old Rooney

If either of them wanted to join and fell in like with our salary structure.....? Was just thinking about this today after seeing a few posts saying we could never sign Lukaku....

id forget rooney tbh.

Id go for B.

But this is like the jarg badge vote.

Option D should be reject the bid and buy lukaku anyway - if he would sign

Chelsea would need to be willing to sell him. Which they aren't.

If Baines wants to go then just take the £20 million and move on.

Baines isn't as effective coming forward when Peinaar isn't there and as we have so many attacking options these days that left wing axis isn't missed the way it would have been this gtime lasr season.

But if he wants to stay then just tell Moyes to sod the heck off.

The man is obsessed with EFC by the looks of it.

Understandable.....life was so much easier for him when he sat in his ivory tower at Finch Farm, under no pressire and with the press fawning over him.

Just speculation.... you might as well start speculating about any of our players.

Why wouldn't Coleman be more likely to attract an offer? He is not far off Baines' level these days and is still improving.

Spot on.

Coleman is the best full back in the league right now......better than Baines defensively and just as dangerous going forward, IMO.

I would worry more about losing Seamus than I would about Leighton.

....I suspect the timing of a move has already been agreed. Baines is a good pro and appears to have done the right thing in not spitting his dummy out and rocking the boat. I just wonder if he's been asked to stay one more season in return for a transfer deal where he's looked after.

Best way we can hold onto our players is qualify for CL, and all the better if that means finishing above some of those teams who would likely do the poaching.

Option A

I get the idea that we should still cash in while we can, but he's world class IMO and will be for a good few years. I'd much rather have him here.

United are awful, why would he want to leave for them? Chelsea already have Ashley Cole as their ageing LB, Wenger won't buy a 29/30 y/o, Man City would rather spend 30 million on Baines' younger equivalent.

Baines will stay forever.
