I was apologising because I've gone off topic again which is why you posted that head banging gif wasn't it?
Sorry again.

People are allowed to disagree and I dislike the idea of Baines in the middle. Why take someone who is such a strong outlet and effective in his natural position and put him somewhere completely new and risk it? I don't think it would be good either.

Maybe I wasn't transparent enough.

You, with your limited knowledge of Leighton, think moving him to CDM is a bad idea.

Roberto, with his wide knowledge of Leighton, seems to disagree.

I know which one I trust.

The modern full back needs to have marathon-like stamina, some pace and attacking ability. Baines still has all these, but I believe he's 30 later this year. His physical attributes will inevitably decline over the next few years, so it makes a lot of sense to look at this as an idea. Baines is an intelligent player - he plays clever little passes and I could easily see him playing the Gareth Barry role in a few years time.

It's definitely worth a look. It may never work, but if Martinez can see the potential in Baines to do this, I'm on board with the idea. He hasn't got much wrong yet.
This is such an intelligent response, it's worth quoting so that people can read it again.

I think moving Baines to CDM, playing Oviedo and buying Robertson of Dundee makes perfect sense.

You have to remember. The way we play the L CDM needs to be able to do a job as a left back to guard for when our left back pushes so far forward. That's why Barry was such a hit and why Gerrard/Henderson were such failures.

We would loose Baines overlapping but at 30 how many more years can he do that?

I'd give him a few games in cm this season and let's see. It could be a master stroke, or just a bad idea. I think itl work just no point this season.
On the subject of positions n that has any goalie from the other team tried to go up the other end, catch the ball and just throw it in the net? They're allowed to handle the ball in the area soooo. just an idea I've been working on...il text Bobby after
