Surely as he has gone it must mean that Pickford is not going. It would be particularly stupid to release him if we were replacing Pickford.

Did we release him though , I thought we offered him a new contract but he turned it down?
Being pedantic, I know , but releasing him would imply forethought and planning.
Him refusing a new contract, not so much.
