Well interestingly I saw a statement a few months back that the BBC is positively discriminating in order to get (I forget the exact figure - let's say 20% of its employees to come from BAME backgrounds. Not much wrong with this per se, but the %population in the UK that were BAME was something like 5% lower than this - so they will end up being over-represented. They seem to be doing all they can to appear to favour minority interests, but its at the cost of the majority - for whom they've dropped the ball.
Where did you read that statement?
What shows do you watch btw where you would take an issue with the diverse cast? Isnt it all about the type of show it is and where it's set?
For example, a show about a welsh mining town would be predominantly white, and it would be stupid to just throw a BAME actor in there. But a show about a group of young people in London should have a cast that represents it's surroundings.
I don't think anyone is being over-represented, more that we're finally catching up in offering roles up to everybody and telling stories from various minority groups that need to be told.
It's a sin is a prefect example of this.
