I look at it this way: what's Gordon's possible ceiling? Earlier in the thread, people were making comparisons to young Ronaldo based on goal/assist output at a similar age, but that comparison is silly.

Gordon's ceiling is not Ronaldo. I think it's more like Sterling / Jesus. That's the best case scenario. And it may very well take him another 3-4 years to reach that level, if he does.

But look at what Sterling & Jesus went for this summer. Very similar numbers to what Chelsea supposedly offered us for Gordon already. So we're saying that if he pans out to be the best he likely can be, then in 3-4 years he'll actually be worth what Chelsea is already offering now? How stupid then would it be to turn down that money when we could also turn around and use it to strengthen the team overall with multiple new players?

Let Chelsea take the risk of paying for a player that might be worth what they pay someday, but just as well might not.

Tough one for me, I really wanna see him do well for us but 45/50 million is insane money for him. I'd be more inclined to sell had we not sold Richarlison, think you need players who will work like a dog in your front line. Dunno, can't blame Thelwell and Lampard whichever way they go on this one. Equal arguments for both.

I've just watched Harrison, Aaronson and Trossard all be well better than him. None are worth 40m. Sell sell sell
