Shhh that doesn't fit the narrative that he's crap.

The level of abuse he gets is absolutely outrageous. Been more comments in this thread today than Richarlison's who played the full 90 and fluffed 3-4 great chances to win us the game. Gomes has overtaken Sigurdsson as the scapegoat now when one poor pass to offside Richarlison aside he done nothing wrong.

He also did nothing useful. Rating players isn’t just about mistakes, of which he did have more than one. It’s also about how they influence the game, and Gomes brings us nothing.

Yeah I've seen performances by him when he's been awful and I've said so, but not really tonight I thought he done okay. The gulf between the teams widened when he was took off for Delph, my opinion like.

His tracking of runners is up there for the worst I've ever seen. I've never seen someone struggle so much and look so laboured. He must be the easiest midfielder in England to play against.

Said in the match thread that he's never got a picture of the game in his head. Which is criminal as a top level ball playing midfielder.

Always deciding his pass well after receiving the ball. I know it's not always possible to play an immediate pass, but he so rarely does.
