Well, I wonder if Brands, knowing full well that Gomes only wants to come here, may drag this out and force Barca to accept less.

They need the money this summer - we, for a change, appear to have an advantage. We might not necessarily need to offer as much as they're asking for. With Yerry Mina last summer we had a price we were willing to pay, Barca held out hoping that someone would pay more. On this occasion, it sounds like West Ham and even Spurs have been told that Gomes wants to come here so, knowing that they want to sell him, we have a bit of leverage.

Might be able to get him for 20m euros or even less if we drag it out. Not ideal from the perspective of having him in for pre-season, but we know what he can do and he's familiar with our set-up and style.

When you saw the state of Barca’s midfield against Liverpool and then the performance Gomes put in at Anfield where he was head and shoulders the best midfielder on the pitch I can’t believe they’re selling him tbh.

To you and I who aren't interested in how we balance the books, that seems like a good idea

If haggling the price down with Barca is the difference between getting our first choice target in another area or settling for a name further down the list, it would be sensible to just wait it out
