anyone watched this?. i sorta drifted off our version pretty quick- probly after the one were the army cordoned off the estate- too far-fetched for me for a slice of`real`life. anyway- the clip i saw with william h. macy (as frank) got me thinking why do the yanks bother, are they soooooooooo xenophobic they shoot themselves in the foot

Have they really done an American Shameless? I did not know that

I bet its no American Office?

It's absolutely fantastic.

I watch a lot of TV, and it's my favourite new show of the year.

I watched a bit of the English version when it first started, and again a few years later, but it never really gripped me. This is very much its own show, however. I guess when the setting is so important to a show like this, changing it from a more familiar (to us English folk) Mancunian estate to a slum in Chicago helps with that.

The cast is pretty great too. The young leads are exciting, there's some experienced heads on board and even the kids are well acted (Debbie is great). William H Macy plays the disillusioned, nonsensical asshole to perfection.

Anyway, it's highly recommended from me. I would advise fans of the UK version to treat it as its own thing, though.

Oh, and I'll also say, that yes, they remake well too many English shows over there. Most of them are uninspired and quite crap.

This, just like the US version of the Office, does break the trend, however.

I watched the 1st couple of episodes, seems a bit got lost in translation to me.

I will say that it takes a few episodes to find its feet, and become its own thing.

I mean, does anyone remember the first season of the US office? That was basically using the exact same script as the English one. It was woeful.

But -- whilst I'm going to be looking at it a bit differently to fans of the English version -- this show is just quality. Once it finds its feet, that is. I was actually quite disappointed it ended after 12 episodes, because it was getting better each week.

`finding its feet` hmmmmmmmmm, not sure about giving something the time and patience for that. i think the 1st episode of the english one got me good and proper- the bit were the milkman was getting an eye-full of knocker to distract him while whatsisname was robbing his milk-float and then he turns around...................... could they do that scene american style - probly not

I wouldn't want them to. And they're not trying to.

Whilst they seem to have kept all the same names -- a dumb move, if you ask me -- they're making the show its own thing. I think if it carries on, the only thing it will have in common with the English one is that it centers around the life of an impoverished family. But that setting in itself is a great idea. Exploring it in a completely different place, with a slightly different culture, is an interesting move.

Anyway, I watch a lot of American TV, so I've got a lot to compare this to, and it really is standing out from the pack. I've seen the whole season of this, and come the end of it, I just wanted more. It's class. But then again, I can see why fans of the original might not like it. The American Office is the only instance of something I liked being remade, and me not hating it, so I'd be lying if I said I couldn't understand your point.

Damn it I thought this thread was entitled "American Shemales".

The Spanish ones are the best, like.

:D

i think you could be right- i`m gonna try to catch the american one and forget about the original and not just coz william h macy is boss in everything i`ve seen, cheers mate. serves me right for judging a full series on a 90 second clip :D

They just can't do what they do over here.

Apparently they couldn't have Cheryl Cole taking normally because her Geordie-accented slang would be against their broadcasting regulations!

I kid ye not.

Haven't seen the English version, but I love the American version. William H Macy is absolute class.
