If he joins I'd expect him to compete with Pienaar for a place, at Celtic he was different class, both Maldini and Puyol said he would go on to be a world beater, not seen a lot of him at Spartak bar a few Champions League games but he's worth a punt imo.

He was born in Scotland, it says he's Scottish on his birth certificate.

So for example if you're wife gave birth on holiday in Germany, would the baby be German or English? (assuming you're english). Being born in Scotland means **** all.

You're utterly clueless. Have you even seen a birth certificate? Mine gives the hospital, district and city. Your birth certificate doesn't give your nationality.

I can guarantee you this though, it states Irish on his passport.

Why waste 5m on a player who will do nothing to our current crop? Surely we should just use the money elsewhere. With 5m we got Kev, why should we buy a back-up aging midfielder with that sort of money?

As an Irishman myself, he is the one player I would take out of the Ireland team everytime we play, always absolutely useless and anonymous.

Could that be trappatoni's fault though? Not playing Gibson is enough to convince me that he doesn't know what he's doing.

McGeady has never lived in Ireland, and spent all of his formative years in Scotland, he's Scottish, he just happens to play for the Irish national football team. He played for Scotland schools at youth level. He wouldn't be a bad addition to the squad either, would allow Mirallas to play off the striker/as the striker depending on who else we buy over the summer.

As I understand it he only has Irish grandparents and his parents were born in Scotland as was he, so on what basis can he have an Irish passport?

You need to calm down for starters. You're right though, you can't tell someone what nationality they are, but surely you can understand why David thinks that, he was born there, raised there, and he lived there, but ultimately it's his decision.

And it's with McGeady who takes it up the left side, cheeky one - two with Baines, Baines on the overlap, McGeady passes to Gibson inside his own half before running up the wing and receives the ball back of Gibson, McGeady creates space and releases a killer through ball to Baines who crosses it in to

GGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!! McGEEEAAADDDYYYY!!!!

I like the sound of that. Let's get him.
