After 10 games

Let's for argument's sake add another draw to make that 38 games. The points total is 67, which has been enough for 5th or 6th in the last 3 seasons (goal-difference dependent).

Well at least 1 of those games is against Leeds, where we didnt field our best side and also the Anfield Derby, which lets face it, we probably would have lost anyway.

So add a win instead of a draw, probably still gets us 5th, which is a massive improvement on 7th, IMO.

7 defeats Home and Away in a calender year is pretty impressive.

It would be lovely to start turning some draws into wins, but I cant be too unhappy when Everton dont lose.

Which is where we were during the Artet/Timmy/Yak/Lescott years...

Still, if we do end up in 5th, no matter how it happened I'll still be chuffed...would be great to have another European adventure.

The fact that we havent dropped out the top 10, given the spending that other Clubs have done, is great in itself.

We just need a little luck and we will certainly start turning those draws into wins.

To be honest lad, I'm a bit bored of those two perennial excuses.

- lack of money: we're actually the 7th biggest spending club these last 3 seasons...and if Goodison actually sold out every home game we might move up another notch.
- lack of luck: every club has their hard luck stories...what we lack isn't luck, it's lack of killer instinct...an arrogant winning mentality.

David Moyes said we would see if we had a good start after 10 games.

Well have we?

My opinion for what it's worth, someone offered me 4th after 10 games playing some amazing stuff I would have bitten their hand off

Yes we have dropped some easy point (today for example) but we have had some luck/results (Man U)

We are clearly short in central midfield and hopefully Gibson can help that when he is back.

the whole of that came up in my head yesterday. yes it could of been higher but most of us blues would be happy
with the position just how many points we 'could of had' but looking back all the other seasons struggling every year
then ending on a high, its not enough to what we expected at the begining, got that bad i was expecting the same again
going on the luck, capable of beating any team in the league only thing id say is just turn up every week and we could stay there
excellent y/d but just wasnt to be theres been some times just been average you cant do that and expect top 4 even top 6.
made up so far just hope we continue to play like yesterday and most other games this season

In the last five years, 14 clubs have spent more gross than us and 16 more net. It's similar if you take that to the last ten years.

Even our wage bull is only the 10th highest in the prem.

I got a bit high reading that.

7th biggest spending Club??

We have spent MINUS £24m, you cant ignore Net spend, other Clubs have improved the squad without having to sell their best players, its a gamble, thats worked.

Manchester City spent £550m Net to win the Title, be as bored as you like about money excuses, but the fact is, in 2012, cash is King, unless your King is Kenny.

Yeah, generally of course we are punching above our weight in terms of the money thing...but we do go on about it, don't we? And not just us, but every club's fans talk about money so much nowadays...it never used to be such a part of football.

Topic for another thread, I know...at least our current team, as long as they all stay relatively fit and injury-free, are top-4 capable without the need to sell-to-buy to improve.

In comparison to other sides first team salaries.. Im sure, Hibbert, Osman, Coleman, Gibson, Anichebe, Mucha - will all be on 'average' wages..

Its talked about more now, cos money was never a factor in football, not as much as it is now, top players want top wages and attract top fees.

Yes but even our top earners earn less than squad players at Chelsea and United.

Whats Rooney on these days? £225k a week? Fellaini, Heitinga, Jelavic and Baines all probably earn less than that.

I agree, this team is top 4 capable and we're on track for that.
