Academies and the EPPP

Some more news today regarding the grading of Academies across England.

Category 1 clubs confirmed as Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton, Aston Villa, West Brom, Norwich City, Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Fulham, Southampton, West Ham, Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Wolves.

Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and Crystal Palace missed out on Cat 1 and have gotten Cat 2.

Which all means a nice funding bonus from the Premier League... a minimum of £775,000 a season going to Finch Farm, i assume on top of the £1m+ we already spend each season.

Interesting to see how the extra funding is spent. I can't see any major development work at FF since we effectively lease the facility and i can't see any radical coaching overhauls, so perhaps schooling/education?

nice to see the likes of Boro and Wolves getting credit. You'd have thought Crewe would be worthy of some kind of funding given the talent that has come out of there.

Balckburn have brought through the likes of Phil Jones, Palace have Zaha and Clyne to show for it.

Part of the criteria is that you sustain a minimum level of investment yourself, although the more cynical may wonder if the club would use this as some kind of rebate
