Absolute Legend Carlos Ancelotti

Why didn't it really work here? We brought in 3-4 players for him in James/etc. I get him leaving, it's Real Madrid. Where he continued to win everything. God I miss him.

But, straight up, we were absolute ass for almost a straight year. I "get" that we had substandard players that he was accustomed to. That football that was on display was some of the worst I've ever seen. You literally knew 5 minutes into a match how it was going to end. I just don't get how we just looked so so poor with internationals at almost every position.
Dare I say he's a tad overrated....

Good post. Brought in by Farhad. Money.

I thought the way he dressed with his everton polo shirt outside his suit jacket looked a joke, too.

A great horses for courses manager who gets the best out of his hand by being ultra flexible with his tactics. 20/21 season made me fancy Everton again

Libertarian when it comes to attacking, pick a formation that puts the best players in their best positions and then allow them to express themselves. Jameth Gomes Allan and Digne pulling the strings for Richy and DCL... Cor yes please

Defensively however we were a mess. Keane and Mina possibly the least mobile central defensive partnership in the clubs history. If we couldn't retain the ball up the pitch we had to drop back and defend our six yard box. Carlo has spoken openly about how the lack of good defenders essentially determined our style of play in the end.

We were 4 points off top four with 6 games to play that season.

Genius in my eyes

He did a fantastic job to keep us up so comfortably in that first half season with no signings.

The next season we started well but then had an injury crisis and went into games with a midfield of Davies, holgate and siggy. That explains part of it.

We were top of the league until nearly Christmas. Told the best manager in the world there was no money to spend and for whatever reason didn’t think he might be able to tell us to do one.

Once he was off to Madrid in about Jan then why would he or any of the players care any more.

The decision to pull the rug out from under him was one of the worst things this club has ever done.

I’d rather see a team of journeymen outperforming due to team spirit and getting into Europe!
You've lost me mate!

We weren't going to get Europe with any other team of journeymen we had around that period, so that's a silly point.

We were in a 💩 place

We got to see a cracking player, we did better than what was realistically expected given our circumstances.

Carlo left for Madrid, not cos his mum called him home.
